Rift or Raft
That's me out because I'm never welcome or for that matter get a second date.
On the point of that my trip to Spa Francorchamp with Nik to watch Citroen 2CV's race for 24 hours it was a combination of the same old but with a added new suprise ending. So the ferry ride out out was a little "choppy" but we made it to the circuit with 30 mins of the race start then promptly stuffed our faces with Hot Dogs then met up with Howard and Alice to watch the sun go down over Spa as the 2CV's raced into the night. After eating Campaniles Liege's finest the staff invited Nik and myself out for a night out which we stupidly accepted. We actually accepted last year but forgot all about the idea and a few other special guests who were staying that night were invited along so we couldn't really refuse. Yes both of us were up at 4am that morning but it didn't seem to matter ....then. So we all drove into Liege and found this bar whose name I can't remember which had the worst DJ I've ever heard. He had no idea how to Mix,Mash or even match beats. It must have been his first night because he was truly awful. Anyway that apart the bar was crammed full of good looking types which took the edge off just how oppressive it was in there but then the most surreal moment happened because up till then the crap DJ had played lots of Euro-Pop that everyone (including us ) knew the chorus to but then the place exploded with joy when he played a Belgium artists song. Everyone sung along out loud and did the hand movements apart from Nik and me who looked more lost than a child on the first day at school. Oddly enough while we were walking around the circuit the next day the very same song was being played through the Tannoy. It brought a smile. Anyway after trying to leave the bar 3 times but gave up after being badgered into staying we eventually rolled out of the club around 2 and got back to the hotel about 2.30 but because I'd drunk so much Coke I was wired and couldn't sleep. I'm really getting too old for this. We came down for breakfast the next morning only to be greeted by the hotel staff who were in a far worst condition than us because they rolled in at 5am. We ambled back to the circuit but Alice and Howard rode to the Nurburgring in the hope of riding around it but it was so busy they came back using the scenic route. Alice and I came up with a few smutty titles for a trip to the "Ring" in 2010 some of which were KoKs around the Ring and many other variations on that theme. Big breath more in a moment. |

So we returned to the circuit to watch last years winner finish first and then back to then hotel for a cosy night in to watch the Grand Prix. Small cheer for Jenson Button.
After breakfast we did a runner for the ferry without saying farewell to Alice and Howard -we think they were having another lay in so we didn't want to wake them just to say goodbye. Once stuffing our faces ( again) on the ferry Nik said he wanted to go for a walk and clear his head and I thought nothing more of it until my other name was called out on the ships comms and once I located a very helpful member of staff I was led to my mate who was sprawled out on the floor on his back with blood pouring out of his chin and forehead with about 5 members of staff kneeling around him. Poor guy had had an epileptic fit and collapsed face first into the corner of a sign aluminium and glass Norfolkline sign on his way to the floor. There was blood everywhere. He looked like he'd been in a fight because everything was red - his face, his t-shirt and most of the floor. I didn't want to appear too gay and fawn over him but boy it broke my heart to see him in such a state. The staff were amazing and we eventually took him to the Medical Room where his wounds were cleaned and dressed. Even the Captain came down to see him and told us that an Ambulance and Paramedic were waiting for us in Dover. Once the Paramedic gave him a check up and I promised that I'd take him to A and E afterwards we were allowed to leave the ship. Being the Pro that he is he was even texting pictures of his smashed up face to his "ladies" while we were driving back to mine. What a trooper. We got back to mine and after many offers to stay at my place or drive him to the Hospital he drove himself there. He's almost as stubborn as me. I'm waiting to hear from him now. Ouch, ouch Nik!
Had a similar experience after blagging a lift on a coal ship from Barry to Roquefort with a friend in my youth. You know how the doors on ships have a large step-over bit at the bottom? He leapt light as a gazelle through a door-way, and hit his forehead slam dunk on the quite sharp steel edge at the top... He fell backwards, unconscious, claret everywhere from a long gash. The cook/"ship's doctor" got out a sewing kit and put 5 neat stitches in while he was still drifting in/out of consciousness. All fine by the time we docked 24 hours later. All a bit scary to witness at at the time though... |

Knowing him he's milking every last ounce of sympathy from his partner. Rex it would have been lovely to have met you on Friday but I doubt I'm going to make it mainly because it's an hours ride for me from down here in sunny Kent and another back and I doubt that anyone will offer to put me up for the night so I send my best and I hope you enjoy meeting the Koks. Alas, I made other dinner arrangements for Friday literally minutes before catching up with this thread That'll learn me. |

Fay I merely have to learn to ride the thing properly, my mastery of gears needs some improvement. But a PX/ geared scoot was always my intention - I was dissuaded by a prominent London dealer when I started. |

I do think that older scoots look nice and I'm all for keeping the past alive but give me a twist and go any day of the week.
Just gun that throttle and away you style. What could be more simple ? Unless I go back to buying another bike I'm sticking with the auto's. Wouldn't it be funny if we said no manuals can attend. We'd be laughed out of town. Nya ha ha ha Bill XX |

Sunday at 6 is for geared scoots. It's a free country, if a club of modern scoots show up, there is no fighting, and room at the kerb. Bar Italia club is for classics, just the way it is. There are evenings for Modern Scoots at The Ace. If the weather is foul and the night dark, if work means I don't get home first, I go on the Mp3, but wouldn't join the ride out, might meet them at where they were going. I want Bar Italia, I get the Lammy out. Simple, don't hate us. fay |

It's not hate it's just the Ace is two hours away for me and call me shallow I'd much rather sit out the front of an Italian Resturant or Bar looking at my scabby badly maintained shitbox of a GT 200 than the Ace.
No offence Jim but that's how superficial I am. I agree there is a time and a place for various builds and ages but this is the attraction of the Donkei Skoks you can ride what you like and no one really cares what it is but Vespa's are quite popular. Once you introduce conditions and themes it all gets a bit restrictive for me. I don't know about you but once people get appointed to do things it all gets a bit official and we don't want that do we ? We only have a few conditions - 1 Are you good looking ? 2 Do we like you ? 3 Do you know what a merkin is ? I'm open to suggestions by the way for 4. Love and Rockets Bill of Dogville |

Yes we had another great weekend away and seeing as you are asking Nik spent the night in Hospital for observation on Monday evening.
They couldn't find too much wrong with him apart from a busted up forehead and a huge cut in his chin. Mind you they couldn't find much right with him either (sorry Nik) I doubt we'll go back to Spa for the 2CVs again but there is a 24 hour race for the Citroens at Snetterton late next year so all are welcome to join us for that. No we won't be camping. Maybe camping it up but not camping I think I'm going to have to restrict my trips to Europe next year because I'm counting 8 so for with one to Florida. I've also run out of races to see so I'm scratching around for a famous one to see but I've come up with nothing. I think the only one left is the 24 hours of the Nurburgring but I'd rather ride around it if I'm honest. Bill x Genie I have a garage and the Hornet gets lonely at night. I think it's started to cry because there is a small trace of oil around the bottom of the front suspension. Arse. |

Sorry to hear about Nik - hope it all turns out fine in the end. I have (hopefully "had" now) a penchant for fainting/fitting myself, but thankfully I've never hit anything on the way down.
In happier news, I have a black Honda SH300 parked outside. First impressions after being on the X-City for ~6 weeks were: (1) "it's so teeny", (2) "it's rather quick" and (3) "it's rather windy without a windscreen". I didn't ride it for long enough (10 miles) to get to what I expect will be (4) "the seat isn't as comfy". I might add one of these if I can find a UK supplier. |
