Alice, don't let them replace the chain and sprockets needlessly - if there is still plenty of 'adjustment' left then they should be fine. I didn't get mine done at 18,000, though I might at 24,000 (coming soon). However it does depend on the individual dealer's view on what *has* to be done for warranty purposes.

The rollers will need checking though - mine are well worn after every 6,000 miles (Dr Pulley sliders going in next) - and the original wait until 12,000 miles for them to be changed found two of them worn down to the metal insert and the rest very close.

The chain is starting to look a bit k-nackered, and there are roller-sounding noised going on, so it might well be the lot - argh! (Tyres will be fitted by Dave W, who does it almost at cost.)

jeez... I check into this thread once a week or so, and always have ta go back a few pages to play catch up. Endlessly entertaining. I swear, you guys could make as sitcom outta some of the material here.

Skok-Tales or would that be Skoktails? Thursdays at 7pm sharp. I'd tune in for sure.

Thanks for the laugh mobsters... (Oh, and good vibes to Genies sickly cat).

I think its a virtual pub.

Everyone talks over each other, is slightly on something, and there's a constant stream of smut. The only thing that hasn't yet happened is that one of comes back from the loo with a novelty condom, inflates it and lets it go weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee around the thread.

It may not be the best thread on MV but it is the most variable.

it's not good news. she's got a mass in her upper intestine that's probably a malignant lymphoma. even the very best case scenario involves major surgery, just to see what it is. i don't want to put her through that kind of pain and fear.

Very sorry Genie, that truly is the worst possible news. Sending positive energy your way...

We've three cats, one @ 14 years and diabetic. I was against giving the daily injections but my wife is an even softer touch than I, and the old boy has responded well, doesn't seem to mind. It's the end game soon though, I think.

Edit - was informed that the 10 year-old cat is indeed 14 and will be 15 in two months time. I'll try to stay better informed on something that lives on my lap.

Genie,

I am so sorry to hear about your poor kitteh. I too am the owner of a geriatric feline, since she's 15 years old, I count every day with her as an extra. About a year and a half ago she developed hyperthyroidism. I had her irradiated and she got better from that, but now the underlying kidney failure is sneaking up on her. I've raised her since she was 5 weeks old and bottle fed her then. I don't know what I'll do when it comes time to let her go.
Probably cry buckets for days, I guess.

cheers for your warm wishes everyone

i was all ready to cancel my ski holiday (i'm meant to be leaving on saturday) but my wonderful mates have rallied round and offered to look after wee kitty while i'm gone. one of them came over this evening and gave her a reiki session, which she seemed to enjoy. they've all been given instructions to call the vet and get the deed done if she takes a turn for the worse while i'm away, but i don't think she's ready to go just yet.

Nope... I tend to place the slice back together they way they were in the loaf. I worked in restaurants and I think putting the bread that way make the sandwich look nicer and that leads to happier customers... better tips... happier servers and nicer cooks.

Genie... sorry about the kitty. My pup is in the same boat.

And that's the blessing and the curse of having pets.

They can't tell you where it hurts or what it feels like when they are suffering but would you like to put a pet out of it's misery that could talk to you ?

Now here's an interesting one. How do you react when you are eating out with a friend and they want to taste some of your delicious pasta dish or whatever the resturant you have chosen to visit.

Tasting
Bill,

I usually offer whatever my dish is to my dining companions, before I eat any of it. And I take some off my own plate and put it on a bread plate or the edge of theirs myself. This way no cross-contamination as it were.

Now that's just strange. If I wanted some of thier dish I would have ordered it.

I think I may be just a little possesive over what's on my plate and don't like it being robbed.

I may have stumbled on something. It maybe about the way it's done.

Your "date"may have already extended thier fork before they ask " can I have some of yours?" which makes it hard to refuse.

Very interesting.

Too much to take in at once.
genie - enjoy the skiing, if the cat's time comes it comes. I've had to decide on about 8 animals whether their 'time was up' over the years, including one dog when a teenager and my parents were away. Never easy - but that is the human's problem, not a cat or dog problem. They have no sense of self or of impending death. Putting them 'to sleep' is just that to them. Bit of a tear-jerker afterwards though.

OCD:
I do the same with the bread. I don't like assymetry.

Same with the buy book thing - (I don't buy magazines).

I normally only have three pints when I'm riding home afterwards - but I make the last two 'just a half' (into a 2/3 emptied glass, natch!). So that evens it out OK - and there's rarely just one other in the group anyway. Persistent bludgers get spotted PDQ and nagged mercilessly when found out.

Oh, food - I'll happily let someone else taste some of mine if I can taste some of theirs. Hmm... that sounds smutty - OK, that as well.

poaching
I'd admit that I am not skeevey about germs in some respect, but not in others. I would consider it rude to poach someone's meal before asking.
You are not alone in your meal possessiveness.
I would really consider it rude if someone stuck their dirty fork in my food, unless we were already swapping saliva. Even then if they didn't ask I would definitely be giving them the hairy eyeball.

I offer my entree because sometimes it's nice to try other things, and usually you only order one entree and have to decide which one of a series of choices. Which is why, since they usually come out all at once to the table, I offer it before I myself have sampled, in the spirit of adventure, as it were, to my dining companions.

"this rabbit stew looks delicious. Would you like to try some?" Razz emoticon

Thievery

My wife, and now daughter, is forever taking things or putting things on my plate. Frys/chips/crudites are fair game no my plate... even if they have the same on their plate. It's all about sharing with those with me. I am sure we "share" germs in many other ways, too. Some are more publicly acceptable and some are more fun.

OK.

I guess it depends on who i am with.
If I was on a date, then: sure try my food! try anything you want, we will be exchanging bacteria later anyway.

If I was with friends I know reasonably well, then I would not be happy. I would think: Cheeky B'stard, but let them try it anyway, smiling.

If I was with close friends. "F*ck off! and buy your own fuc*ing food, you cheeky f*cking F*cker!"

Genie, what nice friends you have! I bet that if even if the end is nigh, the cat will hang in there until you come home.

Tyres changed over in Penge, bike delivered to Camden for service, glad to be at work so I can finally sit down and have a rest!

I do the bread thing too, but I use a breadmaker so the slices come out pretty uneven and need to be matched up to prevent the contents escaping.

I also still have the toddler preference for not allowing different foods on the plate to touch each other.

Some things that I have offered my dining companions that have never been accepted by them, let alone sampled from my plate -

Taiwanese style sliced pigs ears
Muskrat a.k.a. "rat backs"
Frog legs
Escargot
Pickled trotters
Paaling (smoked eel)
Prairie Oysters (calves testicles)
Black pudding/blood sausage

Sometimes it's just nice not to have to share.
