I had a good day today, a customer in the shop turned out to be a member of the Lambretta scooter club of Hong Kong, which was very cool. 8)

I seem to be listening to more and more Mumford and Sons for some reason.

Advice pls. I dropped by to look at a second-hand scoot at a dealer's this morning, and asked if they could start it up for me. They said they weren't allowed to keep petrol in any of their bikes because of the insurance, as they're under a railway arch, and if I rang them in advance they'd arrange to have it fuelled so I could run the engine.

Fishy? I've never heard this one before - do e.g. Metropolis say the same?

(Also the guy who knew about this particular scooter was off sick today, yadda yadda...should I run awaaaay?)

I might believe them about the terms of their insurance.

But on the other hand, there's nothing in what they said to stop them from going to a petrol station, filling a jerry can, taking the scooter outside and giving it a dab of petrol to start it.

I think it smells a bit.

That must be a bugger when it comes to engine maintenance and tuning. Maybe they've got a man who can do it transcendentally.

Ok, I amnot a UK insurance expert but if you can't have petrol in scoots and scoots need petrol, why would the local government let a scooter shop open up under those requirements? Do they need to add petrol to a scoot to test ride it, then take the bike off premises to drain the bike, transport the scoot back to the shop and do it all over again for the next test ride ? Not exactly easy to remove 100% of the fuel and don't carbs get dry and gummy if they sit empty?

They don't keep fuel on site and they sell things with internal combustion engines in them ?

I can understand not being permitted to store petrol on the premises in cans or other containers.
But not having any in the bike is just weird, especially since anyone wanting to buy it would want the engine started.
Walk, don't run, to the nearest exit.

I didn't want to name names because I wouldn't put it past one of you to sneak in and buy the scooter before I did , but since it seems there's not much chance of that, it was My Scooter & Me of Fulham.

My Vespa gets de-dented today hopefully, just waiting for the dent guy to arrive and work his magic. Spent a whole day derusting the exhaust a week ago - couldn't believe what a mess it was in after only two months of use!

Had a first service as well and running like a top. Hope you had a good time on the slopes Genie and glad that little Orky is looking perky.

Actually, when I lived in London as a transient student (Donk credential alert!), I was in Cranley Gardens hard on the Fulham Rd. and as often as not we would head down that way for the odd pint and/or football game. Good times...

Well the Italian restaurant that I wanted to use as our Lunch with the Stars venue on April the 4th opens at 530pm on Sundays from April through to September so I'm going to check out another one this weekend.

It may well be in the Haymarket.

i have alot of wierd dreams but usually when i wake i forget them but this morn i could remember most of one so here goes.......

i was hiding in a scrapyard form a copper behind a row of cars ... i popped up to see where he was and in the boot of the car was a large fish tank full of water .. inside the tank where two kittens watching me ... i pulled them both out and toweled them dry and gave them a cuddle [kind me] ..
....... ran off from the plod with cats under one arm and tank under other ... later i noticed the cats where dying so i popped them back in the tank and they smiled and got better....

analyze that one ... there was more but thats the essence

Kam, I smoked at least 20 a day for 10 years. I gave up 2 years ago and I don't regret it one bit.

I've got a few rolls of gaffer tape I'd be willing to provide to any inent quitters at a much more competitive rate than nicorette. As long as I get to stick it on. And choose the colour. Now that's an offer it must be terribly difficult to turn down.
