The Scottish Highland Games at the Dunsmuir House in Oakland Ca. are this weekend. I want to wear my Kilt (Anderson) but since I am riding my GTS I could have a problem. Maybe I can duct tape it to my knees.

Scooters are kiltable (or kilts are scooterable?). If the winds are too nosy, tuck the flap under your thigh.

I have anderson heritage my great great grandfather I believe came from scotland and settled in New Zealand in the early 1900s.
My great grandfather on the other side was a reid and came over in the 30s. I can't imagine riding with commando kilt would be a warm experience.... jsut don't find at swarm of bees at 50mph ![]() ![]() ![]() |

commando kilt
I don't know commando kilt and no duct tape on the freeway at 60 - 70... I'm way to old for that kind of flash.... and that cold morning air could be embarrassing.... I think i'll stick with the Armor spandex shorts and the thigh tuck. now what to do with the sword...

Oh, I get it now. I thought OP meant that scooter riding in a kilt was one of the new events in this Highland Games thingy.
Sort of "twist (n' go) your caber", rather than tossing it (as they say, Mrs Slocombe). |

Maybe I can duct tape it to my knees. It is quite cold and riders of both persuasions wear kilts, strap on leg/knee armor, boots and MC coat/helmet. The kilts flutter a bit when riding at speed, but are basically heavy enough to cover the important parts from tourists & those easily offended. I rode my scooter and had no problem & didn't worry about road rash any more than if I were riding in gear and jeans. Laura ![]() |

What, no one's seen that little ad hiding in Scoot! Magazine the past few issues?
http://www.skirtsonscooters.com/ They have "modesty clips." Basically a little weight that hangs off the front of the skirt (or kilt) and prevents it from flying up. I actually did this a long time ago before I had real safety gear... I just didn't think to make it look floofy or market it. |

This is what you need, clip the kilt front and back between the legs.

If you need a way to mount your Claymore... I'd just sling it off the side. I wouldn't try holding it between your legs. Just tell the cops that it's purely 'decorative'. (I'm assuming you're not bringing your war blade that's > 48" long!)

We were riding up to Chattanooga last spring when my hubby pulled off from me at a high rate of speed. As he is on a Bandit 1250, my MP3 500 couldn't keep up and I watched him go. Turned out he was chasing a big Harley cruiser he had seen off in the distance. The rider was, you guessed it, wearing a kilt. I asked if the guy was going commando or wearing shorts, and my hubby said he didn't look, there is such a thing as TMI.

Re: commando kilt
A true Scottish man wouldn't worry about going commando, cause that's the only way to fly!
Dang, the games are this weekend and I'm all booked out. In regards to LAURA J comment on a local club willing to ride in kilts...ya well she didn't mention that same club does a naked night ride every year too! ![]() steveja wrote: I don't know commando kilt and no duct tape on the freeway at 60 - 70... Philippa and I were involved in a Scottish County Dancing display many years back, and were worried about parking at the do. So we went down on my Vespa. No problems with the kilt.
But I don't dance commando style in my kilt. With the jumping and bouncing we do, it would be like someone playing snooker down there! Just put on the kilt and do it. Stop pussyfooting about! Mike |

I have a grey Kilt which I plan to wear to Amsterdam in November when I plan to go to Wasteland for the first time after too many years away from the Scene.

Wow I was on another topic and 'shorts' were crazy things to wear on a bike... but now 'Kilts' are cool.
Well done everybody for not calling him a idiot, stupid or some other put down reserved for somebody riding a scooter not dressed in full body armour. Might try it sometime. |
