Modern Vespa

Hi everyone!

Thought I'll drop a note to say hello. I'm a spanking new Vespa owner, having just bought a LXV50 scooter. I've always like a Vespa though could never convince myself to buy one, until I saw this second hand LXV50 in a scooter shop. She's real gorgeous and had done only 691km, and the price is... about right (for a Vespa here in Middle Earth, anyway). I couldn't keep my eyes off her, and after a quick ride I decide to bring her home with me.

I love the way she looks, I love the way she sounds, and I love the way she handles the road. I used to have a Piaggio Zip 50 4T (before being seduced by 4-cylinder beasts... talk about extremes) and had ridden several Taiwanese and Japanese scoots but none of those scoots I've ridden really give me a ride like the Vespa. I just couldn't wipe the grin off my face!

I didn't realize there was an LXV50. They only sell the LXV150 in the states. Great looking scoot!

Thanks everyone! yea, real pretty scoot she is. The "Avio Grey" colour is apparently a tribute to early Vespa prototypes which were traditionally painted grey, or so says the marketing people! I must say the colour grew on me... I would have bought the "Portofino Green" had that one been available a week ago.

And yes, a 50cc 2-stroke engine. The buzzing sound is great. "Sempre una vespa" (see, I'm slowly picking up Italiano)

I'm just flipping thru the owner's manual and it has a wonderful selection of six languages... of which none of them is English. Do you guys in USA or UK get English manuals?

My manual (in Belgium) definitely has English in it. From memory, I think it was the last one, after Italian, German, French, Dutch...

That colour with brown leather seat really rocks. A true beauty.

My manual is in Italian, French, German, Spanish, Dutch and Portuguese. The warranty and service booklet as well as the accessories booklet with all the nice pictures of add-ons you can buy has English though. I'll try to do that, but it's a bit hard when she's only a 50cc and there are impatient cars trying to run you down at every opportunity. I had an awful time trying to run in my Piaggio Zip 50 (4-stroke). Fresh out of the store, with her approximately 10% optimistic speedometer, she only do 50kph (31mph) tops. That could barely keep me flowing with the traffic on the slow city roads here. It got better as it approach the 1000km/600mi milestone, eventually claiming a 58kph/36mph reported top speed. It did achieve an unbelievable 40km/L of gas (94 MPG) in everyday, full-throttle use.
