Why is it that scooters cost so much less in the US than in Canada? I am looking to buy an LX150. In Canada the cheapest ad I found is for $4300 (Vancouver craigslis) without any extras. When I read the forums it seems that a similar bike sells for around $3000. Ouch.

Scooters, cars, electronics; basically any imported good is cheaper in the States. The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.

scooters aren't. Vespas are. Example: bv500, $6299. Rsv1000, $13999.

If you cross brands or classes of bikes, you'll always have an imbalance:
kawi ninja 250 (or Honda rebel 250) $3999. Vespa gts250 $5999

and on the other side of the spectrum:
lance "duke touring" 250 $2399. Ducati Desmosedici RR (800cc) $72000.
