Hello there,

I have Vespa Et2. Recently i changed my dead battery with a new one. For some reason my whole electric system is not working. When i bought the battery it was dry. there was a note in the pack that said i have to fill it in with distilled water. i did as insturcted and charged it for a hour in a garage. the battery was warm when i got it from the gargae and the guy told me that it is charged, but still my electric system is not working. I can not use my horn, indicator and self start. is there any thing that might have gone worng? What are things i have to check? Help Please !

Regards
Anbu

Hello there,

I wasn't lead battery. it was normal battery but dry. In the pack it said just add distilled water into it.

Thanks

Where on earth did you buy the battery from? If supplied 'dry' there should have been an acid pack with it with instructions for the initial filling and charging.

De-ionised (or 'distilled') water is only used for topping-up if that ever proves necessary.

Check your kill switch.......just in case.

And the poster above me is correct: A new, lead-acid battery should be filled with acid for the initial charge. They should have given you a box with a plastic bag inside that was filled with acid unless they put the acid in at the shop and told you to top it off with distilled water.

Also note - when we write 'topping -off' we mean to between the min and max marks - not to the actual top!

a "normal" scooter battery is a lead-acid type. The instructions indicating to fill with water assume that the battery was initially filled with sulfuric acid, as jimc noted.
