I've been running a Leo Vince 4Road pipe the last 4K miles or so. After breaking a second header pipe with the Leo Vine, I wanted to try a different exhaust - preferably one with a one-piece header design. See previous post https://modernvespa.com/forum/topic49007

I decided to try the Giannelli Iperscooter. There isn't much information out about this pipe. I spent many hours searching MV and other scooter bulletins, but didn't find much except one post in Italian that I couldn't read. The Giannelli web site www.giannelli.com doesn't provide a spectacular amount of info on this exhaust either, but shows that they build some quality items.

The one good post I did find was on MV by member juan from Florida posted on October 20, 2008. He does a good bit on the installation. https://modernvespa.com/forum/topic36678

I've only just installed it and ridden up and down the alley (it's raining), so I'll share initial opinions as well, and follow up with some road experiences later.

Cost was exactly the same as the LV from Scooter Trap. No additional shipping charges. I ordered from Matt on Tuesday morning and it arrived this (Friday) morning. Good service.

It's a solid, well-made exhaust - very equivalent to the LV in materials, construction and finish. It's shorter and lighter than the LV - 17" long vs. 22" for the LV. I didn't have a scale to weigh them, but I'd say the Giannelli weighs quite substantially less - perhaps 30% less. It's about the same diameter and sectional shape, so it's really very much like a shortened version of the LV in overall shape and design. The mounting plate is bare brushed stainless, and very similar to the LV mount, but not painted. The LV has a cleaner looking sphincter, with it's smooth little baffle cover, while the Ginnelli looks a little more like a liquid cooled machine gun.

Installation was very easy. The hardest parts, as usual for exhaust changes, were accessing the right hand side exhaust nut and replacing the wire tie on the Lambda probe harness. Unlike the LV, the Giannelli has a one-piece, full length exhaust header included, so it is far easier to mount and align properly. There is much more clearance between the pipe and the water pump, and you can still easily access the oil filter and drain.

The Giannelli seems to sit in about the same spot and at the same angle as the LV, but because it's so much shorter, it starts a couple of inches further back and ends a few inches further forward than the LV. I've no worries about it hitting the bodywork, since it rides just like the LV.

I realize that I'm probably biased now (why should my shit stink?), but I think it's a better looking pipe than the LV. I liked my LV when I was sitting on it, but when the bike was parked on the center stand it did look like a donkey dong hanging off the side. Because the Giannelli is shorter, but also because the head shield breaks up the line and gives it a fatter/faster appearance at the end, it avoids the donkey dong look. The Giannelli has better proportions for the shape and size of the scooter, I think. As you can see, the head shield is anodized aluminum. MV-er juan's was a black wrinkle coat painted finish, and I didn't think that looked so good. I like the anodized piece.

It sounds very similar to the LV, but, as reported elsewhere, slightly throatier and sharper. So far I would say it is no louder than the LV, which is good in my opinion.

Performance? Who knows without a dyno? I expect it performs nearly identically to the LV, and I'm not worrying about changing my Power Booster settings or disconnecting the battery to reset the ECU. I'll take it for a ride tomorrow after it dries up and follow up with a report.

Newly added road test -- Okay, it cleared up and I went out for 20 miles of mostly country highway through the farm fields toward Tonganoxie. As I expected, it's virtually indistinguisable from the LV in performance, operation and, for the most part, sound. After 30 mph you don't really hear it unless you lay hard on the throttle. As I said earlier, it is a little sharper in sound--maybe a tiny touch louder than the LV, but maybe not. If the exhausts were magically switched mid-ride I might not notice the change. I'm very happy with it so far. I'm glad to see some other Giannelli users chiming in. The name is very Italian-y and hep sounding as well. What's not to like?!

I like it, I like the way it mounts into the cylinder. Not hip on the heat shield, Id prob roll without it. Thanks for posting and the photos.

You could screw chrome spikey screws into the mounts.

I like the line of the heat shield it looks like it matches the scooter lines in fact I would want a second heat shield on the weld under the water pump. I think it looks nicer then the LV.

Why can't any of the GTS pipes face straight back or tilt slightly upward? I hate how all the aftermarket pipes face down. WTF !

the mounts shift angles when you put weight on the bike, because the engine moves (what with it being the swing arm and all)

I wonder if this pipe would hit the mounting bracket of the Piaggio rear crash bars on my GTS like the LV pipe does.

I do prefer the heat shield that you have Doug over the black coloured one. Any chance you can post a sound bite of the exhaust somehow?

Here is a video of a Giannelli with sound from Youtube. Not my bike, but it sounds and looks the same. I don't have the icky floor mat though. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71Ip1MP3gio

Here's another Youtube video of the Leo Vince - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tP_mCTYsRn4&feature=related

Okay, so here is what I just did. Open both clips at the same time in different browser windows. Then you can hear both exhausts together, stop and start them independently to A/B compare them. I believe what you hear reflects the actual sounds of the two pipes, more or less. I'd be interested in what others hear as the differences.

In general, do aftermarket exhaust pipes increase horsepower - as it does with car tuning?

Well, sound isn't the most important thing...performance is...although you would hope to get a good sound too...my LV pipe is a little bit throatier now that I've been running it for awhile...in the two clips, those are probably ones that were newly installed...no bronzing on the LV indicates this...probably the same for the Gianelli pipe as well....the Gianelli in the video sounds more hollow to me....not deeper sounding but more hollow sounding...BTW, those heat protective shields are also available for LV pipes...if you don't like the way the LV pipe gets bronze in color, get one of those. It's hard to tell on the video of the LV pipe as mine doesn't sound like that...the video of Benny's sounds louder on the LV...more true to the sound of an LV pipe.

Just bought a brand new one from Ebay, for the princely sum of £180! ($294) and I'm waiting delivery. After nearly 3 years of trying to keep my original one in a reasonable condition by recoating it every 6 months, and thereby buying countless exhaust inner washers, I finally gave up and bought an aftermarket exhaust for about £100 cheaper than an original, and hopefully will:
1. Look better
2. won't rust as easily
3. might make a slight performance difference!

From what I've seen in pictures-the akrapovic and remus exhausts come straight back when on the center stand.

....right?
