I didn't want to hijack the "my Dad's old Vespa" thread
https://modernvespa.com/forum/topic49062
But it seemed like there were a few people with GLs
Plus a photo of mine doesn't deserve to be in the same thread with Dads!

So who's got em?

Here is mine

64 GL, 79 p125X motor with polini 177 top end

External inline image provided by member with no explanatory text

This photo was the inspiration for my "other" GL

I did make sure the trim was correct!

If you're looking to start a registry or something... we have ~3 in the club.

1 is a GL that has a P200 engine + JL pipe on it
another is a GL with a rally 200 engine
the final one is a GL with a new baja 150 engine in it.

As you can see, the original stock GL engine was a turd and most are in a hurry to ditch it in favor of something faster. I think they kept their engines, though, in case anyone ever wanted to roll it back.

It's bested only by this GL150 that is in columbus...that a couple years ago was done up as a Rover Eric tribute bike....covered by pictures of me on the front legshield.

It was stolen last year, so if anyone's riding around on a bike that looks like a jackson pollack panting with my face on the front of it, let me know.

Thieves need to have their hand or fingers chopped off like they do in the Middle East.

Make an Eric scoot.

We made these shirts of this guy at work who is a total character...we took a picture of just his face and blew it up all big on the shirt...classic.

I do feel bad for the guy who lost the bike. He really feels that a GL with a P200 engine is the greatest combination ever.

With the insurance money that paid out, he bought an original condition SS180 ...but i think he'd ditch it in a heartbeat for that shitty old GL.

No kidding! I can't imagine this being any other scoot! So I thought I'd pass it along to the judges. It showed up randomly in an "amusing scooter image" thread on ScootMA - http://www.scootma.com/viewtopic.php?t=2275

That's all the info I got, really. Read the thread, saw the scoot, and thought "holy crap, some things are different about it, but SH*T!"

The fellow who posted the image... I'm almost certain he personally has nothing to do with it. Maybe the image just traveled through the webs somehow and he thought it was amusing, but maybe not... maybe he knows the guy who "owns" the scoot. I am happy to do some subtle probing if you guys would like. It is worth considering that this image might also have been taken by Eric's gang itself, though, at an earlier or later stage in the scoot's life prior to being stolen... might be good to have him look at the pic before we get too carried away Nerd emoticon

Fear not ..that's the owner in the kiddy pool! That picture was taken at PVSC band camp rally, from before it was stolen.

Good lookin' out, but i think if that scooter ever showed it's face near the scooter scene with that same coat of paint on it ... the driver would be pulled off and beaten to a pulp.

that would not happen. motorcycle thieves are assholes, not retards. the thief probably stripped the bike and sent the frame to the scrapper, then stripped the engine and scrapped the cases. people are evil, not stupid.

realistically, the frame and cases are scrapped or in a landfill (keeping that shit would be dangerous). and realistically, the bits are on YOUR bikes. think about that. anybody could have bought those bits off craigslist or ebay or whatever. they will never know. any one of you could have the axle, or the headset, or the horn, or the cowls... and you would never fucking know it.

I agree, to an extent. But some scooter thieves ARE stupid. I've had a scoot stolen. They just rode it into the ground, eventually leaving it trashed on the edge of the road. Police actually found it and returned it... after it had been missing for THREE YEARS. I never thought I'd see that scoot again, let me tell you. It was in such bad shape at that point, though, that I wound up selling it as-is for parts or major restoration.

But you could steal that GL, literally paint it with a paint brush, and just ride the poor sucker like hell. No need to do a formal paint strip-down. No need for plates or anything in the right (or, rather, WRONG) part of town... nobody is going to notice or care, and probably just assume it's a moped if they do

Or they could just steal some plates. Had some stolen off my car once, chances are they were going on to a car that was stolen and the tags onit had expired.

They did...that sorta antique-white color was the only stock color for the LARGEFRAME GL last i checked.

Remember, though, that they actually made a rare wideframe GL in the late 50's. That bike was silver like the GS, i think, stock. Most people don't even know that the wideframe GL existed. I think it was only sold in germany.

You know, you're kind of like chad and his mirror plugs, lording those official paint codes and names over us. Look at Eric and his fancy original paint codes.

The only thing I've got is a truckload of ignorance. I'm getting better though.

Someone buy that GL in Iowa that's on Scoot.net

It's a good looking bike.

Nice GT, is it actually a GTr? Looks like it has the big euro headset like the one I have. I see you also doubled the glovebox space.

My friend has a 64 GL, but I don't have any photos to show.
