I'm assuming you'll have wheels. Go to the Wild Blueberry cafe in Olgunquit it has the best corned beef hash ever. Try walking the marginal way also. Cool beach walk. It's not not that far from Casco. Have fun. Lobster is cheap this year. If you were going north i could get ya some free ones

Boston is very small, so I wouldn't worry about being stuck in "the Copley area" while here. If the weather is nice you might wander around North End (our little Italy) and snatch up some gelato, or very good pastries (with a long line first) from Mike's Pastries. If you are a museum person, you might enjoy not only the Museum of Fine Arts, but the Isabella Stewart Gardner muesuem, which is essentially an eccentric rich lady's villa full of goodies from around the world which she collected.
You might enjoy a walk along the Esplanade (again if the weather is nice), which is a grassy walk along a good stretch of the Charles River, or a ride out to Castle Island (which is, in fact, connected to the land). Finally, there's the USS Constitution if really really old sailboats are your thing. Lots to do, don't know what you like. But feel free to ask more questions. |

In Boston, there is a huge indoor mall right in Copley Square. If you get a chance and have never done it, take one of the "Duck Tours" that leave right near Copley Place. You will need to make reservations in advance for a tour.
You should try to eat at Legal Seafood if you get a chance. There are several throughout the city and there is one close to Copley. Fenway Park is close by. Faneuil Hall is a nice outdoor shopping/restaurant district that is just a short cab ride away. If you're feeling adventurous, there's the "Freedom Trail" walk that takes you by some of Boston's famous historical sites in a walking tour. The Boston Aquarium is down near the waterfront, just a short walk from Faneuil Hall. Swan boat rides in the Boston Public Gardens is another highlight of the city. Boston is great this time of year. Hope you enjoy your stay! |

Casco is right near Sebago Lake, one of the finest in Maine. There's always something going on there.
You should try to get over to Freeport and visit L.L. Bean's flagship store. Kind of like DisneyWorld for outdoor types. There's a lot going on in Freeport. Old Orchard beach has a nice boardwalk and is great for people watching. Hope you have fun! |

Lots Of Great Ideas...Only Going To Be In Casco One Day...
Nice ideas for Boston...and Casco...only picking up kids at camp in Casco so I won't have too much time there....get a few lobsters to eat somewhere up there though...and for Boston, the North End sounds great!!! I heard some stuff is very touristy (although we qualify as "tourists") and don't want to do too much of that stuff...museum sounds great too. Thanks for all the great ideas...

i just got back from the deep south of the far north-- maine.
it was beautiful! seriously, you can't go wrong anywhere you go. awesome 2-lane roads everywhere. side of the road icecream stands, strawberry picking, crazy antique shops everywhere. lobster rolls a plenty. if you can get into the "country" and want a quiet get away, the cornish inn is freekin' awesome. straight up down-home and they have a cool little bar and great food. tell heidi that the folks from cali sent you! there's also several places around there to eat from hi-line to local color. the old port in portland is always a blast. art galleries, sidewalk dining, the fish market, tiny bars and the maine hipsters are freekin' hilarious. LL bean in freeport is an entity unto itself. you owe it to yourself to check it out. they have an outlet across the street with good deals, and there's several other outlet stores there too. fyi-- brooks bros is having a MASSIVE sale right now with everything 40~60% off. free port is only about a 30min drive from portland. no matter how tempting do not stop at the muddy rudder on the way there. the food is "meh" and the drinks are spendy. there is a little pub next door to LL bean that serves great food and drink, so you don't need to head back into baldwin to get eats. gritty mcduffs is okay too, if you're into that kinda thing. in boston, hit up jamaica plain. great window shopping and walk-about eating/drinking opportunities. legal seafood is awesome-- have a pint of harpoon and a 1/2 dozen oysters for me. if you can take in a game at fenway it will change your life. for a night out the possibilities are endless. and bar/pub off the T-stops are good. i like to start at the miracle of science in cambridge. good taps, good food, and not too rowdy. ditch the kiddies and get crazy and hit up the phoenix landing, the B-side or the fields. try the pizza at the B-side; and if they ask you if you want a double the answer is always "yes". have fun! best, -greasy |
