Just to clarify for T5bitsa69 (if he's serious). This link kind of shows what I would think would be alright for a vintage type rally as far as Vespa models are concerned. This is just my personal opinion! On this page in section 9 it references models as historic, recent and current. I would ride anything in the historic section to a vintage rally.
http://www.answers.com/topic/vespa#Vespa_models I'm not looking for a argument, or trying to stir the pot. I'm by all means no expert or guru. |

Not really saying that at all. Just letting you know what I would personally expect to find at a vintage only ride as far as Vespa models go.

Mate I had a T5 back in 86 when they first came out.
I took a lot of crap from my mates for getting it. It's a classic now but not considered "Vintage" then or now. I had a 58 LD in 1980 that was Vintage but not classic.......Today? I think so. I buy, fix, ride what i like. I have nothing to prove and no stupid cleakey groups to answer too. Still have all my teeth. Cheers |

I think this thread has turned into a healthy debate, I doubt it will change the "johnny hardcores" minds or anyones elses mind, but now everyone can see how muddy & silly this subject can be.
Just dont make me listen to Jimmy Buffet or Country music at a rally. Ride Safe no matter what you choose to ride or what ride/rally you choose to ride on. Manny PS I love the smell of 2stroke oil in the morning. |

That's historic TnG, which means you can't tear it down and rebuild over it without permission from the city. |

nigelthefish wrote: Didn't know they were twist and go....very cool looking bikes. You had one right Eric? How are they to ride? Wonder what kind of permit you need to put a Ninja engine in one... ![]() I also owned 4 Rabbit S601 Superflows ( like the one pictured above ). That's a 200cc fluid-driven automatic transmission ( not CVT, like you'd think ) engine, on 8" wheels and air suspension ( which was adjustable and very cool ). Gave the feeling of riding on a low cloud of air, supposedly. I've never actually ridden one ... i sold mine off, as they were all parts bikes of varying quality. Sprunch in Detroit got one of them. He's ridden it, and gotten it up to 50mph or so... but it's kinda doggy. The automatic transmission isn't as snappy as a CVT one. It's meant to be a cruiser bike, though ..and it certainly has a lot of creature comforts built into it. I do think they're some pretty cool bikes, though. I wish there was a better support community + parts availability in the states. I would have had more motivation to keep them. My scooter time is diminishing with age though, and i didn't want to keep around more bikes that i had to work on. |

*edit*
The bike above..that's not the original engine, if you didn't figure that out. Someone has bodged in some rotax engine or something, or maybe a Helix engine? ( and that's cool as hell, btw ) You can see they put in their own gas tank back where the batteries normally sit. Normally the gas tank on the S601 / S101 is in the front legshield. |
