Hello all - new to the the forum, and after much searching, finally found this one for other Vespa owners. I had a Burgman 650 a couple of years ago and there was a Burgman forum much like this one that was very active and was very valuable to get info from. I bought a new, left-over '08 GTS250ie this spring and love it. My roommate in the Navy down in Puerto Rico 40+ yrs. ago had an old, nasty Vespa that just kept running and running. It had bald tires and the kick starter shaft was broken off and we had to run with it and pop the clutch to get it to start but it always ran good and I always remembered that old Vespa. Last summer, a new Vespa dealership opened up locally and after many visits there, finally bought mine. My only concern is that due to slow sales and the economy, etc., I'm afraid they might quit being a Vespa dealership, and the next closest one is 100+ mi. away in the event I'd need service. Until then, I will continue to enjoy my new Vespa. They are an excellent scooter and I've already gotten a lot of info from the forum on suggestions and things to do with mine.

Hi Ron, welcome to Modern Vespa. Enjoy your GTS, it is a great scooter. Even if the Vespa dealer stops selling Vespas, shouldn't they still be able to do service?

Welcome Ron,
We're glad you found us too! There is lots of good fun to be had on MV. A great community of friendly and helpful Scooter enthusiasts such as yourself. I've had my Vespa for a few years now, and have been handling all the maintenance myself. We haven't had a Vespa dealer here up until a few months ago. I'm a little wary of them because their previous experience is with Harleys. They say their mechanics have been vespa trained, but I worry that a died-in-the-wool Harley mechanic is not going to give my Vespa the love and attention it needs. In fact a friend of mine brought his Mp3 in to have some work done(rear tire change) and it's been in the shop for over a month. If you aer handy with the tools or mechanically inclined, I say dive in and get your feet wet. Start with the regular maintenance stuff and work you way up. the wiki page has tons of helpful tutorials and posts to get you started, and there are enough folks here, (some dealers and mechanics), to help with the tough stuff. But don't worry too much about all that now. RIDE THAT SUCKER! |

I found a local bike mechanic who helps me with the really tough things. He says that scooters are actually easy to work on!

Welcome to MV...we have a Vespa Dealer (Sales) and I they do service Vespas...are they certified...don't think so...am doing some prework on ascertaining who in the community will be able to provide reliable repairs.
I'll focus on the maintenance. |

Hey Ron,
Just a heads up.Last summer I visited Woodson Motorsports(Also called Vespa Ft.Wayne) here in Fort Wayne,IN and they had Piaggio and Vespa scooters there. Its just about 7 miles from me.Anyway I just looked at Piaggio US dealer site, they have this Dealer still listed. So it looks like you are 61 miles from your next closest Dealer.Good Luck.... |
