Modern Vespa

They were describing the new BMW and when they got to the interior they were talking about the DVD player, all the functions on the video display, all the knobs that did this and that, the MP3 players, the doo dads and baubles, heads up displays, back up cameras, side view cameras....

Folks, there's no way people are going to notice us on the streets any more. There are so many distractions inside one of those vehicles that there's no reason for someone driving to actually look out beyond their windshield.

I envisioned some elderly wealthy person driving next to me trying to figure out how to turn off the side view camera while they roll over me and my GT without knowing it because I was too smooshed to show up in the rear view camera!

We're doomed

After all that, you'd at least expect them to add a simple scooter detector.

heads up displays, back up cameras, side view cameras....

All of the above items makes it safer for everyone. Of course if depends on who is driving. Haven't improved that yet.

I saw a Driver's Education program for teenagers with the goal of illustrating how hard it is to drive when distracted--they had the kids read from a manuel while listening to loud music. It really got the point across.

In this day and age of multi-tasking + Driving....indeed we need to be extra dillegent+cautious.

Just cause we "think" the driver sees us--doesn't mean it's so.

All the more reason for bright colored clothes +blinking modulating lights.

Appart from the heads up display, the cameras only work at low speed...

BS... all that is needed is reasonable-size cages with good visibility and conscientious and undistracted drivers with their heads on swivels.

The gadgets generally detract from safety and make drivers lazy.

Drivers are already lazy. The gadgets make the safety interesting if only for a while. Interesting = use
