I have the "Vespa" brand ones....I have lost the bike, it slid about 10 feet on it's side...not a single scratch on the rear cowls....only the front fender and the legshield trim on that side were scratched.....the legshield trim was destroyed on that side and a scratch on the one side of the front fender the size of a baseball...thank goodness for the crashguards being on...and, they look good too IMO.

From what I've read from past postings the Piaggio original crash bars seems to be the ones that is preferred. Still doing a little more research on which one to get.
I noticed that the Piaggio frame joins up in the back and perhaps this aids in keeping them "fused" together as a one piece unit. Hence, will not compress / collapse. Protecting the cowlings are important since they are in fact the chassis / frame of the scoot. Munibonds, Sorry to hear about going down... |

I have the Piaggio crash bars and they saved my scooter too. I went down and highsided my scooter last fall. The front of my scooter was toast however, the rear cowls were save of any damage of any kind at all by the Piaggio rear crash bars this despite the scooter landing on its side and me slamming down on top of the scooter as I went down. I'm putting my Piaggio bars onto my 300 Super when I get it.

One more vote for the Vespa crash bars.
I have been lucky not to fall, but I feel a little better with them on the scoot. Plus, they look good. |

Piaggio front fender guard is useless IMO. Mines up for bid starting at $20 shipped. $109 retail!

Necro-thread alert!
Sorry to revive an old thread, but has anyone ever explored the possibility of adding crash bungs (also called bobbins or mushrooms in the M/C world) anywhere on a vespa GTS 250 instead of, or in addition to, crash bars?
Seems to me that, considering how often the scoots get dropped, pushed over and such, the leg shieled could be saved from side damage if there were strategically placed bungs somewhere. If there were a place to mount them from under the frame, the cowls might be protected too. Just thinking out loud here and wondering if anyone else has ever considered this. I know the crash bars work, but I hate the look of chrome. [and yes, I know the obvious response is going to be "if you hate chrome, how do you feel about road scrapes and dents?"] |

On all my sport-bikes I had frame sliders and swingarm sliders. Thankfully I never had to use them despite all the dumb stuff I did.
There are no real good mounting points to mount crash bungs of frame sliders on our Vespas. You would literally have to drill holes in the most common parts of the bike that hit the ground and then you would still have to worry about denting the metal panels. Basically they wouldn't work. That is why they created crash bars. If you don't like the look of chrome you can have them powder-coated any color you like. Personally I like the way the chrome looks. ![]() |

Treppenwitz wrote: That bad? They don't seem that noticable when I see them on M/Cs. Basically what Vezpa said - you could try and mount the sliders on there but they should be tied to the frame, not bodywork. Dropping the scoot may mean less scratches, but hella-big deep dents instead. Put bars on. Or don't drop it. Or don't put bars on, drop it anyway, and console yourself with the knowledge that scars always tell an interesting story |

I have frame sliders on my CBR- Thought about them before I put the crash bars on my vespa... Wouldn't work (in my opinion). Frame sliders, or crash bungs I assume, attach to the frame- You'd have to put a hole through your vespa panels to attach them to the frame. And they'd stick out. And they'd look dorky (again, my opinion).

Having a hard time deciding on crash bars... although I'm sure they would do the job in protecting the scoot, I'm a lil worried that it might help the job for a would thief by giving them something to hold to!

I am not a big fan of chrome either. However, I am a lesser fan of scratches and dents. My scoot has been dropped twice at low or no speed with the bars. There was no damage to the cowls. First time I dropped it at a fairly low speed without crash bars, the repair bill was about $2000. Thank goodness for full insurance coverage.

Id have to say my front fender guard worked when I went down, but I like the double bar guards better than the stock single I currently have. I added PX/Lamby bars to mine after a ride where two scoots got knocked down by the wind, they fell on curbs and dented the shield and I didnt want that to happen to mine. Because, IMO, there are two kinds of riders, those have have gone down and those who will go down. ![]() BTW Im part hispanic, we love chrome. ⚠️ Last edited by snapshot05 on UTC; edited 2 times

I just ordered the OEM Vespa crash bars:
Are they easy to install? How long for installation? Are the instructions clear? Do they add much weight to the scooter? |
