I haven't got around to purchasing a real riding jacket, although the
jacket I use to ride with has been good to me except for the crappy
zipper that seams to break within 6 weeks of use, Sean John jacket.
I have purchased 3 in the past and within 5-7 weeks the small little chinese zipper craps out. Thats when I have the quilt lady sew in a
Coats & Clark zipper. I do like the white jacket with the yellow stripe
that raps around my shoulders and down my arms, very good
visability while riding at night. Here's a photo of the product I am
having manufactured here in the OC. www.hoodaroo.com

urbano tucano is what im using at the moment. Warm, waterproof plenty of pockets, good zips and buttons. Has an inner bit you can zip in for the colder weather. Armour for the elbows etc.

Think they are about £150 new but I picked one up on ebay that had had slight use for less than half of that.

I quite like the armadillo stuff as well might by one of those to. The city rider jacket looks good, has pockets and headphone loops for your mp3/ipod player.

I'm a huge fan of Corazzo myself. I have the Max,mesh stripe Speedway and Urbano gloves. Great quality stuff but you pay for it. Knox/CE rated armor is about as good as it gets for impact protection. Nice scooter oriented style too, avoids the dreaded "Power Ranger" look. If the new stuff is too steep for you, used jackets come up on MV and Modern Buddy pretty regularly, just keep your eyes open for them because they tend to get snatched up pretty fast...if the price is right.

I had a Corazzo 5.0 and chucked it in the garbage after 2 years. I hated that jacket. Really uncomfortable, and the main zipper broke after 2 years. I would never buy another Corazzo. If I ever buy another motorcycle jacket, I will look at Joe Rocket or Alpinestar.

tucano urbano - because they are the only company that makes a mesh jacket for ladies in a colour other than black or pink

rev'it - because the 'soho' jacket is a really nice stylish jacket that works in all but the hottest and coldest weather

corazzo - because unlike the poster above me i love my 5.0 - it's a great 3-season jacket and looks very sharp

frank thomas - because they make a really nice ladies' winter jacket with a removable liner, that actually fits properly and doesn't stop at the waist

richa - because they make a super fantastic cozy men's winter jacket that keeps me warm and dry in teh most severe weather and comes in XS

I've got two armoured jackets now.

This is my winter one, it's got a liner and keeps me toasty. It's an RST. (that's not me looking cool in the pic Razz emoticon )

Recently I had to get a lightweight mesh jacket, as I went out in the nice london heat a few weeks ago and sweated buckets. This is my summer jacket, the Frank Thomas Predator Mesh jacket (it comes with a water proof jacket cover that lives in a pouch in the back). Coupled with my TR1 helmet and dreads I look Predator-ish 8) Laughing emoticon

I wear a Joe Rocket mesh jacket (an older Phoenix 4, similar to the current Phoenix 5) and have been very happy with it.  Even in Seattle, I I need full mesh to tolerate summer weather, and I've found that by layering microfleece under the jacket and wearing heated gloves, I can actually use it in temperatures down to freezing.  (Not ideal to be sure, but useful if you can't afford a second jacket for winter.)

I started out with a Tourmaster Jett jacket.  It kept me warm in winter but did a poor job of keeping me dry and had far too little ventilation for even slightly warm weather.

This is the same as I got.

BTW I failed to mention that I also wear a Hi-Viz Icon Safety Vest (one's that are worn on military bases) over the Vanson Vent Max 3 and a Drifit type undershirt...it is hot and humid here in HI...still find it comfortable to wear this combo.

The Vent Max is not much on styling (conservative to say the least) but it is keeps me cool...regardless I've had a few compliments on the jacket...

I bought a FirstGear Kilimanjaro jacket this past spring for cold and rainy weather. So far, so good, but it is a bit on the heavy, bulky side.

For the heat, my Joe Rocket Phoenix jacket that I bought in 2006 just can't be beat. I love it. Fits my small frame very nicely.

I believe both jackets come in Women's sizes.

genie, I really wonder why do they make nicier jackets for women than men??.... no really...I tried on the armadillo parka for women and I actually like the "slim fit" sorta fit. Except it does actually look like I am wearing a women's jacket. The Mens jackets are slighty too buff for my liking....

am I being too fussy? I don't know..

JoeRocket Phoenix 5.0 Mesh jacket with zip out rain proof liner. Works great in all temps. I keep the zip out liner stashed in the pet carrier. During the cold winter months I add a sweatshirt underneath and with the liner, stay very warm. The price was reasonable, $169 retail for XXL at the dealer. It does lack some storage. An extra pocket would be nice. I do like the way the back of the jacket comes down a little lower than the front-protecting my hind-side while riding in a tucked position. I like the looks too.

A own a black corazzo 5.0. It's really nice and I quite like the look. I don't feel funny walking around in it when off my scooter etc. I have no complaints...I took a long trip recently. I dressed in layers beneath the corazzo, and it kept me dry even in the most crap conditions like pouring rain and fog when I crossed some mountains. It even stood up to the biting cold of a large glacier. And it gets rather cold when you're up close. Even in the summer.

But it's not thick enough to stand up to the reykjavik winter, which can be REALLY cold. Then I wear a winter parka like this one:
External inline image provided by member with no explanatory text
It's really thick and keeps me warm. But it doesn't have armor. And I don't trust the pockets 100% when riding at higher speeds.

Depends on where I am going...
I either use my Corrazo 5.0 jacket, which is useful in a wide range temps, and is reasonably comfortable given that it is made of highly abrasion and collision resistant materials. I would choose it over the majority of jackets that have been named from just a safety standpoint. It is made in North America.

or, I put on my Kerr leather jacket. Kerr is a small U.S.A. operation that makes a limited number of styles of quality jackets with great leather.

+1 on the Teknic Supervent for this time of the year, and when it cools off I have the Cortech Denim Jacket and liner which is pretty warm.

I am seriously looking at Scooterworks Prima Pullman jacket as a replacement for the Teknic as it's getting little tight for me (it either shrunk or more likely I put on a few pounds)

Vanson Ventmax 3 - 9 months out of the year. As TB mentioned, its more of mesh shirt - no pockets. Its probably as air conditioned as an armored jacket can be.

British Motorcycle Gear Zodiac Jacket for the three cool and moist months out of the year. I like this jacket a lot and hate to hang it up when it gets hot, but zipper vents only do so much at latitude 21.

British Motorcycle Gear's Montana Jacket. Full knox armor, and venting, yet the leather is soft and feels broken in. It looks black in the picture, but it is really dark brown. You could wear this jacket out on a date!

In Summer, for trips to the store, Haynes, or Fruit of the Loom. For longer trips or commuting, Rev'it Air.

In Winter, some other, warmer Rev'it that they don't make anymore, and Termoscud.

I wear this one when it's not hot.

External inline image provided by member with no explanatory text

... and then when it's hot I wear an Icon Pursuit Jacket in silver perforated leather. It has arms that zip off just above the elbow (think Mad Maxx when he lost a sleeve on his leather pursuit jacket). I can't find a picture of one...

I also have a vest I wear sometimes. It doesn't have much protection aside from the spine which has some decent armor in it.

For hot weather riding I'll be adding some elbow armor to the mix soon.

External inline image provided by member with no explanatory text

I forgot to say why... mostly it's because I like the styling of a lot of Icon products. That and they are affordable when purchased used.

Both jackets are loaded with armor and have good ventilation.

I have the First Gear Kilimenjaro 4.0 (blue) for Cooler Weather. And the First Gear Torrent (grey) for Warmer Weather.
Both have removable liners and plenty of storage space.
The Torrent has a pocket for a hydration bladder.
They fit very well and are of high quality. I highly recommend them.
I also have a Black Corazzo 5.0, which I like very much. I am also working with Corazzo in getting a custom made 5.0

I'm another fan of the Corazzo 5.0. It isn't stupid expensive in the range of armored jackets, comes in a lot more colors than other brands, doesn't have the Power Ranger look, and fits me very well.

For my mesh summer jacket, I'm currently using a Joe Rocket. It's a really nice jacket with some good features, and fits me better than any other mesh I've tried so far. Unfortunately, the arms are a bit on the large size, and I've had to use safety pins to hold the armor up into place (as in, to shorten the pocket the armor sits in, so it's actually sitting on my elbow instead of the middle of my arm). I'm eagerly waiting Corazzo's mesh jacket.
