Not recently I noticed the paint on the hidden end of my front fender bubbling and peeling. Its been like this for awhile, out of sight and out of mind. Now I'm curious. Could it be the result of heat from the radiator? Caustic road goo? Bad paint from Pontadera? I haven't spilled brake fluid or coolant on the fender. Nowhere else on the scoot is the paint behaving this way.

Its a mystery. Theories and commiseration are welcome.

Looks (almost) like brake fluid has been leaking on it.

We have had the same guy paint both of our scooters over the past few months and mine looks almost the same. Jim's is way worse. The guy is a great body/paint man so i'm wondering if there is anything special with the vespa's that he should be doing? He does the work for our harley/vespa dealer so it's not like he has a bad rep. Any thoughts?

Ah Ha
Could be. Could be. If so, I'm guessing it was spilled during servicing. There doesn't seem to be a leak. My brake fluid level hasn't gone down in the past 6-9 months and I've never seen fluid on the fender or on the ground. In the photo, what looks like a darker residue is inconsistent color/shine in the paint finish. The fender is clean and dry as a bone. There's both a patch where the finish is completely gone - the lighter color blotches, and areas where the paint is stippled with small bubbles - harder to see in the photo.

Thanks for the observations. I'm settled that it's not a typical condition of the 2006 GT200. I'll give the scoot a more thorough inspection all around.

Judy - fyi - This wasn't the result of Hannibal's handiwork. I'd like to ask him how he paints the plastic fender vs. metal cowling - just for curiosity sake.
