You know, that's a pretty good question. Hmmnn.

I have always wondered who Johny Cash was singing about when he told the story of the little dark haired boy that played the Tennessee flattop box was. Maybe his name was Al.

My ponderable is, if you have an occasional table, then what is it the rest of the time???????????

call me crazy but this is my all time FAVORITE song. my mom and i used to dance around the kitchen doing the chevy chase and paul simon dance and singing the song at the top of our lungs.

then i'd whistle the little middle part and they'd all laugh. i don't whistle well apparently.

Our youngest son is named, Alex and he was around five or six years old when this song was popular so I would play it on our piano and my wife, son and I would sing the words. We had a ball with that song and the boy loved the attention of having a song with his name in it.

Is that like when a door is ajar??

That song was popular when my wife and I were newly married. We called each other Al and Betty, we thought we were cute... Occasionally she still calls me Al and I call her Betty.



I grew up with the Tom Jones version of "Buddy can you Spare a Dime".

Cat Stevens converted to Islam and took on his Muslim name Yusuf Islam. Two years later he auctioned all his guitars for charity and left the music business to devote himself to educational pursuits in the Muslim community. Much more than a simple name change for him...

Apparently some guy at a party kept calling Paul and his wife Peggy 'Al' and 'Betty' by mistake...and a great song was born!
