Modern Vespa

I came across this, pretty amazing just to see how things are over in that part of the world.

How many vespas do you think were there? 200+?

200+ and no attitude to be found. Those gatherings are great. Been there, done that.

Moving further East from SE Asia, some pics from our friends in Taiwan. Supposedly a Vespa exhibition and rally last week in conjunction with the World Games 2009 hosted there this year.

So I've been digging around a bit and seems that the city of Kaoshiung in Taiwan has Vespa in it's blood. That's where the Taiwan Vespa Co. and factory were based back in 1964. Probably explains the city hall interest and sponsorship?

HA ha ha that was the most sedate ride out i think i've ever seen, no excessive revving of engines no plumes of 2t oil no chorus of duck farts...mmm not sure about that.

and wahts with the black felt horse riding hats??? not a good look

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, of course.

More striking to me... what's with the couple in black felt horse riding hats (the scoot with all the chrome hanging off the front) and a KID scrambling around (0:44) between them with NO helmet. The ultimate accessory, perhaps.

Can't beat this one, taken in India. One used to see this all over asia back then, when the ol' scoot was the family's only mode of transport...

awesome that the adult is the only one in a helmet. Oh well, if one baby should fall off, there's more where he came from...

Kaohsiung is a great [place for vespas .. see them everywhere... and many other kinds of scoots... when i lived there my mqin transportation was a scoot ( dont remember what kind)...one time scooted all the way to southern end of island and camped out on the beach... rode back the next morning in a down pore...

youll have to circumnavigate the globe first before you get to taiwan if youre going in that direction

Used to do the family on the scoot when I lived in Thailand. My wife and our two girls. When the girls were babies my wife or I would carry them on a backstrap papoose. Once they got to 11 months old and I fitted one of my step through Honda Dream mopeds with a child's fold up seat which went in front of me. Fitted a windscreen and made a seatbelt for them with occy straps (octopus/bungy) stretched across between the mirrors for them to hold onto.
Only the rider needed to wear a helmet.
All safe and sound and they are almost 8 & 10 respectively and still love riding on the Vespa. Just gotta take one at a time now.
