I just bought a 2007 LX 150 from this guy I know who buys bikes that have been dropped or otherwise damaged. This scoot slid pretty hard on one side, but seems to run pretty well. I live in Iowa City, Iowa, and there is one dealership that sells Vespas and other scoots along with motobikes. Before I bought the lx, I called the service dept and asked if they could do a check on it. The guy I talked to was very negative about Vespa, and said a Vino would be better, and that all he could do to check the lx was check the oil.

I didn't like his attitude, and bought the lx anyway. It's at almost 1000k, and I made an appt for an oil change next week, because I don't have the service records.

So here's what I'd like to know from you all - what else should I have them check when the bike is in?

Thanks. I wish I lived back in Seattle where there are better service alternatives. But I'm here for school, and this is what they have.

Have them do an oil change, check brakes, steering alignment, all light bulbs, and tires. There should be plenty of tread left on the rear @ 1000 miles, and the front should look "as new," but for safety's sake, check 'em anyway b/c the bike was in a slide.

If you hadn't irritated them with a phone-call like that, but turned up in person and spoken face-to-face, you may have got a completely different reaction.

People who deal hands-on with other people's bikes and problems, often completely mis-described, really, really, don't want to deal with a pig in a poke that they know sweet FA about.

If they've met you in person, then it's a very different matter. Once you know them, and they know you, phoning is just fine.

Get personal.

Did I mention I just hate phones? I have a few, but for *my* convenience, not other peoples.

Check the 5th post down - sounds like a mostly-Japanese, sport-bike-geared dealer. Their reaction on the phone sounds completely believable, though I do agree that an in-person visit would be a way to go.

thanks!
Thanks, Masala - I'll ask them to check that stuff.

I didn't get the sense the guy was irritated at all - he just likes the 'big four' brands. My Honda dealer back home was the same exact way and I knew that guy - bought my Nighthawk there.
