eek! Someone on camera asked "How did it happen?" a couple of times in Italian but there was no answer.

My guess: Adding gas from a container when some spilled and found its way to a hot engine, then "WHOOOFF!" it caught alight and the open gas tank just let it keep on burning.

I conclude this since presumably the scoot was on the kick stand when the fire started, rather than having caught on fire on the road and then the rider pulling over and having the temerity to put it on the stand rather than just dropping it.

Alternatively: pulled over with ignition trouble. Had the plug out to check spark when kicking it over and got some vapour ignited that was near a fuel leak. [Edit] Looking at the vid again, maybe that's what happened -- it looks like a cowl cover was already off... Or maybe he only took it off after the fire started since mabye it was thrown to its position in the road...

Either way, a horrible end...
