yes. done it with all manner of oils including 2t...usually with whatever is in reach, with no discernible difference. just dip your thumb & pointer finger in it and run the cable through, don't go crazy trying to pour it in the outer or anything.

just go to a bike (bicycle) store and buy a thing of molybdenum disulfide cable lube AND the skinny needly thing that goes on the bottle.

correct term for "cable lubeing"
,, after working on ships 20+ years and seeing 1000`s of miles of large cable lubed,, the term is called "slushing" and often done with a paintbrush ( depending on the size of cable_or_ a cut down mop head. So i take a
cut down art brush and use that. or i`ve pulled the cabel thru a rag in cable grease? hmm wonder if slick-uid works? |

I used two-stroke oil on the throttle cable of my lambretta a few weeks back. I was miles from home and I figured it was better than nothing. The last cable lasted 10 years, even if I only get half as much from this one I'll be chuffed.
At home I fill the outer with tryflow and then use grease on the inner. |

+1 on the two stroke oil
I never use anything else, its there, its free (kind of) and its quick (stick the cable in the auto lube tank run your fingers over it and stick in in the outer...piece of piss) how often are you changing cables?? if i bought some fancy shmancy lubby shit, it would sit on the cupboard under the sink for years and i'd probably end up forgetting i bought it and I would use 2T oil anyway cos cables snap mostly when i'm out and i wouldn't have the fancy shmancy lubby shit with me. |
