I have a Chinese bike, a JCL 250 B, as well as my MP3. It's a fun little bike. It is supposed to do 80 mph but I never drive it above 50, weighs 225 less than the MP3, and both my feet sit flat on the street when stopped. I ride it for fun but now use it to ride and to teach myself how to work on bikes. If you get one, first see what it is a knock off (clone) of (like mine is the Yamaha YP 250 cc) and look for the service manual. A lot of manuals are available through:
http://powerscooters.org/manuals/ All the 250 bikes are either a Honda or Yamaha clone. Then go to this page, read it and watch the video: http://www.killermotorsports.com/articles.asp?id=156 Then get what you need and buy and change out the cheap crap -- as suggested in the second link. |

Good links for reference Jerry....and you've got a great toy to play/learn mechanics on!
Just was over at Flyscooters website looking at their scoots again. Want to ask you all, if you HAD to choose one of these, which ONE would it be and why? (I really like them both and hope one day I will ride again on a lighter machine). ![]() IL Bello 150cc

MySkyMizer,
If you happen to choose the Scout you may want to also look at the Sym Symba for a bit better quality.Just something to think about. ![]() |

The Honda Joker and Mojito look similar. I have also seen the same style "borrowed" by numerous Chinese knock-off companies.

MySkyMizer,
I have to agree with you, the smaller scoots look like fun, don't they? ![]() If you get serious about one of these smaller units don't forget to check out the DMV regulations regarding engine size requirements for your local highways, you know how they can be. Anyway good hunting, that's always the best part! LL75 ![]() |

Why buy a copy, when you could have the original...
Found one in Houston, the real deal, a 2007 Aprilia Mojito 150.

This is what I finally figured out about the Chinese bikes: Some are really well made. The engines are very good. Many engines are made in China for well known bikes. Suzuki has a 250 cc engine factory in China. What is wrong with them is the fluids, some parts and NOBODY there knows about the bike or fixing them!
Since they just CLONE bikes they do not develop or research them and know nothing. I bought mine because the distributor was in Dallas and he has hundreds of bikes and parts but then found they had NO SERVICE MANUAL. Also, the dealer (Chinese guy with two Mexican-American mechanics) who sold it to me told me WRONG INFO about my bike - that it didn't have an air filter and that the engine oil lubricated the gears and there was no place to put gear oil. Fortunately, I found out differently in the Yamaha manual and forums. Also, the video referred to above on doing the valve adjustment saved me from removing the gas tank, as suggested by the Yamaha manual, instead removing the bolts on the shocks to create enough room to get to the valves and crankcase. (I had to use a scissor jack to get the shocks reconnected.) After doing this valve job I think I can keep my 250 running well as long as I want. They are simple, you can get the parts but you need to go to the forums for the info. The Chinese do not know anything about maintenance. The American owners do. And thank God for You Tube. Every type of maintenance is is on video now. I just watched one where the guy had a 12v impact wrench he bought at Harbor Freight for $20. I'm getting one to carry with me on my trip across the country. With my spare belt and variator tool I'll be in a lot better shape for a belt emergency in the middle of nowhere. Frankly, I think a cheap Chinese scooter is a lot of fun and can make a fun hobby. And it gets me over the fear of screwing up my MP3. |

I like the Ruckus. Almost bought a 50 for my dad. Nice and nimble, and has a nice low center of gravity. Rode an Aero 80 in a past life. Would not mind that one to tinker with.

Why did they stop making that one Are you starting a collection of scoots? ![]() I just realized that I don't need so many scooters, plus winter and summer cars, parking is getting tight, so I am selling one right now on Ebay-ends tomorrow--the gray Big Ruckus. I am keeping the red, yellow and black scooters. letting the gray go. I love fashions, you know how that goes with the colors... it's a girl's thing indeed. I use the "little" Ruckus 50 cc most after work(I don't have motorcycle license yet), it can go up to 45 MPH, 100 MPG, the Big Ruckus goes up to 80MPH and 80MPG, not bad for a big scooter. I saw a big guy on a "little" Ruckus last summer, and on the Totalruckus forum, they are all guys there, I guess I love boys bikes. Oops! ![]() ![]() Here are some pictures of Big Ruckus from Adventure Rider: http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://baldy.smugmug.com/Motorcycles/Fun-on-a-Honda-Big-Ruckus/IMG7922/56752850_juCDX-S.jpg&imgrefurl=http://baldy.smugmug.com/Motorcycles/Fun-on-a-Honda-Big-Ruckus/1213385_UmCfc/1/56752850_juCDX&usg=__DwQQldiTsUB9daCoYpmkDBExJ1w=&h=300&w=355&sz=42&hl=en&start=4&um=1&itbs=1&tbnid=RWH8C6ku_gTvQM:&tbnh=102&tbnw=121&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dhonda%2Bbig%2Bruckus%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26tbs%3Disch:1 |
