Hi

I just bought a Et4, and it was dropped by a previous owner.. there is the scratches on the side above the engine, and on the right side front, there is some dents and ripples.

Is that front piece changeable?

Thanks

(it wouldnt load my picture, so if anyone needs to see it, give me your email)

If it's the piece I'm thinking of, then no - it's part of the frame. I don't think this means nothing can be done about dents there, right enough. I seem to remember someone posting some pictures of an awesome job being done getting dents sorted out: I think it might have been genie. I suppose it depends on the seriousness of the dents.

Far too much usage of the word "dents" in this response.

yeah that was me - i had a nasty dent in the front of mine caused by a car changing lanes into me. if it's just minor damage it's really simple to sort out though not cheap if you want to get it done properly.

your picture probably wouldn't load because it was too big - have you tried resizing it? the limit is 800x800 pixels.

My Dents
Here is the dents on mine, how hard is this to fix? How much you guys think it would cost to have someone do it properly? I don't have any experience in doing body work, so I don't really trust myself.. haha

that's relatively minor and easily fixed. the dents will have to be hammered out and filled, which means taking off the glovebox and indicators, the trim will need replacing (if you're fussy - if you're not it can probably be re-fitted), the glovebox will need to be repaired (plastic-welded) or replaced if you're really fussy, and the front legshield will need a respray. i am no expert in repair estimates but based on what some mates have paid recently for getting work done on their scooters, i'd venture a guess of £3-400 or so, if you get it done at a bodyshop. it may be cheaper outside london.

there are people out there who do bodywork on a cottage industry basis; some of them are very highly skilled and will do work that is comparable to - if not better than - a bodyshop, at a really competitive price. if you're going to go that route make sure you do your homework, go with somebody who has been recommended to you, and make sure you see some of their work before you hand over your scooter.

Fixable but....
Looking at the floorboard where it meets the frame and the mis-alignment of the horncast.... When you fix the dents have the alignment checked also.
It looks like your rake angle has changed...
I speak from experience on this one...

EASY
This is easy fixed ,i too have no experience of bodywork but i was able to do mine and as you can see it was worse than yours lol.1st take off glovebox, the cracks are easy to fix with superglue get the one that has an activator pen with as it will bond plastics. Then just put a hammer on outside and hit with a hammer on the inside .You do not want to beat the dent out too much as the bodyfiller will take this up. if you lived closer i would do it for you

me too Crying or Very sad emoticon ... the rake angle on one side of mine is very slightly 'off', which means the whole legshield is very slightly twisted to the right (the side i was hit on). the bloke who hammered out my dents didn't have a jig (which is the only way to sort out the rake problem) so i've been riding around with a slightly 'off' front end since january. it doesn't affect handling (unless i take my hands off the bars, and i can feel it pulling slightly to the right) so i'm leaving it as-is until i get enough money together to take it into a body shop with a jig.

here's a useful basic explanation of rake angle:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bicycle_and_motorcycle_geometry

if your scooter takes a hit on the front end, it can change the rake angle - in other words it can push the handlebars closer to to the seat. a really serious collision will sometimes push the handlebars so far back that they touch the seat, in which case the scooter is probably totalled - you can't pull it back into shape without substantially weakening the frame. minor collisions can also change the rake angle on one or both sides, but it's possible to pull the frame back into shape by putting the scooter into a jig. again i'm by no means an expert but based on the damage to my own scooter - which is repairable - you're probably fine, a good body specialist with a jig will be able to get it back into shape for you.
