I just bought my MP3 500 ei on saturday. I was just wondering what to expect with the breaking in phase. Just want to make sure that everything is running ok. Thanks for the help.

oh the ei models are out?
![]() Congrats on your purchase and welcome to the club. On my 250 the biggest thing I noticed is that power and mph increased a bit after break in. Oh and my dealer told me not to keep steady speeds for the first 600 and instead to keep varying it. |

Welcome to the club. Book the first service right away, and spend the next few days doing 600 miles of twisties as hard as you can - preferably up and down hill as well. The twisties will ensure you keep varying speed, as well as get the most enjoyment.

Let me add my welcome as well. Agree with Jim, et al, drive it fun and hard and break it in right, but keep a close eye on it as you do and service it on schedule. Loretta, my 500, just turned 1000 miles last night after a 40 mile run through some great twisty backroads... I call it the road home from work, although I live only a mile from the office! So you see what's going to happen to you now...

Addiction will follow shortly if not already here. Then the second addiction - mods - will pop up. Enjoy them both.

Re: New to the MP3 500
kennymic331 wrote: II was just wondering what to expect ... Kenneth Charleston SC ![]() Then, you can expect to be coming home late every day. For some reason the MP3 always takes the long way home. About once a week the darn thing gets a mind of its own and takes me about 50 miles out of my way to get home. Next, you can expect to spend hours reading this forum for all the mods that people have done. This is important because eventually you too, will venture into personalizing your mp3. But if you get to the point you are talking to it and it answers back, get professional help. ![]() Last, expect to meet some great people from this forum. |

Thanks for the advice
I am already seeing what everyone is talking about, mostly with everyone just wanting to check it out. I work at a place with a big popualtion on Harley, and speed bike riders, and even one Can-am Spyder rider... Every last one of them love it and wanted to ask me a million question about it after work. So after 30min of talk in the parking lot at work, i head down to see my tattoo guy and spent an hour down there with him talking about it. Have any of ya'll taking your MP3 out on the Interstate or any major highways at high speeds yet????????

kennymic331 wrote: Have any of ya'll taking your MP3 out on the Interstate or any major highways at high speeds yet???????? I have the OEM windscreen on mine which makes for a nice ride. The 500 has MORE than enough power and stability to take on virtually any type of road. Interstate or otherwise! I put about 1000 miles on my 500 with my learners permit starting in September 2008. I got my full MC endorsement November 4th 2008. Since then, I have put an additional 5550 miles on it! And that is MINUS 3 months of dead winter where I couldn't even ride because of the weather! That's 6550 miles in just a little over 7 months 8) On some days off work, weather permitting, I've gone riding pretty much non stop for up to 5 hours at a time. Wake up in the morning, check out google maps and go on my way Enjoy it! dk |

kennymic,
Along with everyone else, allow me to welcome you to this forum and to the MP3 brotherhood/sisterhood. I concur with all that has been said previously. I started my romance with the MP3 on April 4, 2007 when I purchased the first MP3 sold in the state of Louisiana. I put 7,500 miles on that MP3 (250) before purchasing my MP3-500 on July 30, 2008. It now has 8,000 miles on it. I ride regularly with several large groups of "proper" motorcycles and did so even with the MP3-250, a lot of it on interstates. The 250 would top out at around 80 mph and the 500 around 90 mph. I've never checked the speed with a GPS, but the 500 will indicate close to 100 and will accelerate to 80+ in just a heart beat! Enjoy your new ride and don't be concerned about the performance envelope. Once broken in, your MP3-500 will out perform a lot of "proper" motorcycles, especially those with lot of chrome. It will also put a proper spanking on a lot of sport bike riders in the corners. One last comment, if you have not done so already, I encourage you to get signed up and take an MSF motorcycle safety class and get your "M" endorsement. Congratulations and enjoy, |
