With the recent warm weather and being so pleased and glad I'd bought a Weise Airspin jacket last year, it made me think about some mesh trousers, as I like to wear full protection all the time.

A quick look on ebay found some Joe Rocket Pheonix 2 mesh pants. Mostly open mesh with CE knee protectors, two zipped pockets and zip for attachment to jacket. Full length zip up the legs (why full length not sure?).

The ones I got are brand new with tags, £36 inc p&p. wore them this morning and it was like I wasn't wearing them, they felt so light and cool. Fantastic.

The full length zipper allows you to take the pants of without having to take your boots off. For example, if you stop for an extended period of time and don't want to walk around in them, you can easily unzip and take them off.

Mesh pants that can be removed without taking off your shoes? What kind of a kinky forum is this, anyway?

Oh yeah I get that but the zips normally only go halfway up the chin (on the ones I've seen anyway).

The full-length zippers allow you to wear the protective pants over a regular pair of pants. I ride my MP3 to work and I can just zip them off and on easily. A colleague of mine, however, does call them "stripper pants".

OK, now, those of you reading this on the right side of the Atlantic can get your minds out of the gutter and just substitute "trousers" for "pants".

I am slighty more of a slave to fashion and can not find a pair of ridding pants that don't make you look you like you are jumping a gourge or in a bad b movie. I am thinking about just getting a larger pair of Ben Davis pants which are 14 gauge denim and buy d30 knee pads and d30 under shorts. I would have to see the Johnny rockets in person but the zipper in the back looks like a butt flap

I am waiting for my order with these to come in. http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/1/1/40/20973/ITEM/Tour-Master-Tracker-Air-Pants.aspx They have zip off legs so when I get where I am going I can take off the legs and change into flip-flops to walk around.

Received my pants today, love them. Fit well and very comfortable. Think I need a few more pair just to wear daily.

Those trousers look good Soeley.

I can also agree with you on the Weise Airspin Jacket - I own one and it is one of the best Jackets that I have ever had the pleasure of biking in. Warm in the cold with the inner liner, Cool in the summer without, and as waterproof as mesh jackets can be, just avoid really heavy downpours! Very comfortable too 8)

I might go for those TourMaster ones. I more my Jafrum textile pants every day of my 2,400 mile trip to Greenville and loved them, Armour and when you want a blast of air on the legs just flip your knees out a sec. Jafrum just added more riding pants at:

http://www.jafrum.com/Motorcycle-Gear/Mens-Textile-Motorcycle-Pants;jsessionid=0a0106521f435b02724627e7480a94e883fbf985a7f0.e3eSc34RbhyRe34Pa38Ta3aKc3z0

You can wear them with whatever you want, or don't want, underneath. Biggest objection when I posted about them was they were too inexpensive -- only $45. I don't do fashion much anymore but I might go for those zip off jobs. But they aren't armored are they?

I wear the Fieldsheer Four Seasons pants in hot weather. Fine-toothed metal zippers.

Padding in the hips and CE armor in the knees (quite good - I've field tested it )

Wow - that's cheap Jerry - do they actually look like they'll protect your hide if you do down at 40 mph?

Yes, they protect and I would think very well at 40. I only went down once with them, before dawn in a 15 degree grade parking lot that I thought was level, and had no problem with the pants.

I bought several things at Jafrum after Jacq turned me on to it and EVERYTHING I got from them was very good quality and less expensive than I thought it should be. I have both the summer and winter pants.

They have a really good leather jacket in the classic old style at:

http://www.jafrum.com/Motorcycle-Gear/Mens-Leather-Motorcycle-Jackets/MJ400

for only $55. I ordered this jacket earlier. They sent it but some of the snaps had pulled out of the jacket so I shipped it back. They were out of my size and made full refund, even shipping. Their customer support is excellent. People talk to you over the phone, answer your emails. Their stuff is made in Pakistan. I already own 5 motorcycle jackets and need this one like another hole in my head but how can you turn that down? I'm a sucker for how they look. I just saw they now have my size and I'm going to order it again.

This jacket is made of heavy leather but I like that for protection. You can soften it with Lexol. Check out all their leather. They have more expensive soft stuff but, like I say, I have more jackets than I need -- Fieldsheer, Technic, Nitro, M2R, Vanson. I just like this one. The jafrum stuff fits right in with my other gear.

I didn't and it is working fine. I could get jeans under it but don't. I have cut down my waist size however by using the exercise bands (long and wide rubber bands). They will return for change of size without question.

Many motorcycle pants are sized for going over regular pants. Both my Joe Rocket mesh and Tourmaster winter pants are designed such and I bought normal size for me. Go over heavy blue jeans fine. Both have some waist adjustment which I use when wearing lighter pants underneath. Neither would be comfortable with just underwear underneath but shorts are fine.

That is what I wear too. Great pants for year round.

For anyone based in UK/Europe, Hein Gericke do a range of summer trousers, with varying amounts of mesh and varying amounts of padding.

(And on the subject of buying a bigger size and wearing over another set of trousers, that's pretty much what I do every day when I commute. And sometimes on holidays as well. Especially useful for winter touring down windy motorways)
