If its 22 inches broken down you could just lift the seat, bungee it across the top of the seat and drop the seat. 22inches is no wider than the bar

(NO NEED TO YELL, we can hear you fine.)

This is interesting. I'm curious to see what solutions people come up with.

I've had my eye on those collapsible walking sticks for some time. I almost purchased one yesterday but when I put some weight on it, I wasn't convinced that it wouldn't collapse unintentionally nor support my full weight if needs be.

Generally, I rely on my trusty Blackthorn stick, but at 36", it's a bit unwieldy to take on a scooter.

I'm not sure how big the bucket is on the LX off the top of my head, but if the cane collapses down to 22", maybe that's small enough to fit in the underseat storage? If not, you could always bungee or velcro it to the rear rack, or use velcro to stick it to the outside of the glovebox for easy access. No need to spend $90 on a shotgun holder!

There are probably lots of sling type bags at REI that would do the job nicely for less than the $90 quoted.

or some 'cane holsters' http://www.independentliving.com/products.asp?dept=391&deptname=Cane%20Holders

or go to a camping store's rope section, they can do a flat webbing thingy with toggle slides on both ends so that you cinch down each end and then flip the whole thing over your shoulder.

I've done that with umbrellas.

The wife and I use these all the time when we hike in the woods/hills and they will support a lot more weight than you might suspect. They are very handy going up and down hills, providing a "third" leg in slippery areas, and probing muddy areas to see if they are firm enough to cross without sinking up to our knees.

They are also useful in dealing with vermin: snakes, out-of-control dogs, coyotes, and two-legged vermin in particular. I wouldn't hike without one.

I wouldn't wear it. Suppose you got into an accident The chances of getting skewered by the cane is pretty high I would put a rear rack on the LX and attach it there.

Since becoming disabled I've used a folding carbon fiber cane and store it in the top-case or pet carrier. Very light very strong.

I don't know if you could get a straight walking stick into a curved scabbard, but you get 100 points for the coolness if it works. 8)

Maybe. I've carried practice swords (wood or resin) on the scooter before (It's in my job description ), and on occasion, a guitar. I figured the danger isn't much different than other items one would carry...computers or other items in backbacks, camping equipment as in tent stakes, poles, etc. Technically, everything adds to the danger if you think about it.

I'm betting it would be easy to make something like a cloth arrow quiver that could be slung or clipped someplace on the scooter, not necessarily on the rider's back, that would work. I think I'll get on it since I've made similar items before.

If I come up with something I'm happy with, I'll post it.

PS: It may be a while before I get to try it out in practice...I haven't been able to ride since early June Crying or Very sad emoticon and it's still a toss-up as to how long I'll be able to walk without a leg immobilizer as standard equipment. I'm pretty sure my walking stick may be a keeper, though. Hey, those folding ones look pretty nice...I didn't know they had those.

OK....how about this? I remembered I had one of these in the back room.

Escrima (fighting stick) cases! I have one of these and, although you can't see it in the picture, it's a decent weight vinyl with a velcro closure and an adjustable shoulder strap on the back. I'm sure you could work out a way to strap it to the scooter.

http://www.awma.com/index.cfm/action/productdetail/Product_ID/6519.htm

You could probably find a lot more options doing a Google search for "escrima cases." They are usually very inexpensive.

They are not long enough for a full length cane (usually about 36") but they would certainly fit a telescoping walking stick.

A search for bo staff cases or sword cases would likely bring up other options.

Partially related to this, I was wondering how to attach a professional camera tripod to my scooter.

Wearing a cane (or tripod) across your back, while riding, seems like a good way to break your back if you go down and land on it.

Sorry to resurrect an old subject, but this worked for me.
I bought a stout, collapsible walking stick as recommended and just tucked it under the flap of my saddlebags.

I've gone over 200 miles carrying the stick this way with no problem at all.

You could aways attach a sidecar and toss the cane in it.

Any <500 MP3 will handle it with ease. They'll swallow a French baguette, and/or an English cricket bat.

Plus the 'extra' capabilities of these bikes may be just what you need.

Thank you for the tip. I''ve been using-from time to time the Swiss Gear compress walking stick which fits under the Yamaha 400 seat. The folder might do the trick for the GTV. As I don't need it for most short to mediun paved situations when I get in grass, hills and extensive open stairs it is handy. Get spells of nothing working right on the left side and then things get better for awhile. Such is life-eh?
Good to know others have the leg/back/foot problems and keep on trucking. Ride on, ride safe...
