Just finished to install my silver Oberon mirrors. After reading about the mirrors on Modern Vespa Forum I desided to buy myself a pair of those little juwels. Installing them is not very easy as the LX doesn't have "open" bar ends like you find on a bicycle nor weights at the end like a GT so you can't bolt them on. So either you need to drill a hole in the centre of the handlebar of minimum 12 mm diameter (you can order them with different sizes of collets, and 12 mm is the smallest) and +- 5 cm deep if you want to use the expanding collets delivered with the mirrors or you need to drill a 5 mm hole and make M6 thread in it so you can use the Allenbolts (M6) delivered with the mirrors. On the left hand side I had the choice of either adapting the weight (shorten it at the bar end side so it will fit against the handlebar) and attach it using a bolt or drill a large hole (12mm minimum) and make it fit inside the handle bar. ( I did this because I kinda fucked up my "centre hole").On the throttle side I drilled the 5 mm hole and made the M6 thread in it and shortened the Allen bolt (-1,5 cm). Here you don't have to shorten the "collet" on the weight because the plastic "tube" that you use to "throttle" (and that sit around the bar end) is a little bit longer than the the bar end itself. The lenght of the little "tube" on the weight (used to expand the collet) is just long enough to give your throttle "free play".

Looks great Kristof
How practical are they? I know a lot of people just remove the mirrors on their vespa, but I actually look in them a lot. |

It just amazes me how much better any Vespa looks without the Mickey Mouse mirrors. I can't wait to get rid of mine. They ruin the classic lines of the handlebar bodywork and headlight. Being that they are required by law, I would have almost rather seen them in flat black instead of chrome.
The Oberon mirrors are the best-looking alternative I've seen (no mirrors at all seems like a bad idea to me). If my GTS doesn't burn through its rear brake line and kill me, I may reward it with a set of Oberon mirrors soon. I've been meaning to ask my paint and body person if he can fill and paint the stock mirror holes in those plastic covers. Along those lines of thinking, is there anything under those covers that requires access? Imagine how great a Vespa would look with a perfectly smooth top bodywork piece, completely eliminating the mirror covers. |

I just noticed on the LX pictures you don't have mirror access covers. The GTS has a removable cover where I see the LX equivalent is molded into the top piece. Still, imagine how good that would look to have that raised section shaved down and filled.

Of course if you can have the holes "properly" removed (filled out & painted) it should be very nice. I haven't tested them yet but I'm absolutely shure they won't be as practical as the original items. But they look absolutely fab 8) |

Does anyone know if the Oberon mirrors will work on the 2005 PX150? I wonder about the twist shift on the left hand, and if the bar ends are compatible.

The bar-ends are hollow so fixing the Oberon mirrors won't be a problem... But you can"t use them because when you shift or throttle the mirrors will rotate. |

I've had the time now to test them properly and must say the're pretty usefull. You don't have the same "field of vision" as the original mirrors because the Oberons are smaller (alsmost half the size) but you can still see the traffic coming up from behind with ease. They also vibrate less than the original items.

How To: Install Oberon Bar-End Mirrors
Also use the search function. I think for the GTS it doesn't matter what size it is, because the're bolted on in the same way as the bar end weights. |

Sanitycheck: Don't know about your models, but the euro mirrors for the et4 ARE flat black and about 1-2 inches shorter. I got mine at scooterwest.com

I just thought I'd bump this with some install pics.
I pretty much exactly followed the instructions above, drilling and tapping the ends. Once perfectly aligned they work ok, I'm on the hunt for 58mm convex mirrors. I do like riding without the large mirrors in my field of vision. Scoot now looks short and fat. It turns out cutting the rubber nicely and drilling the hole perfectly centred isn't critical.
I swear I hadn't been drinking when I drilled the hole.
Note the throttle side is a perfect fit but the left protrudes about this much so you need to chop it a little. 5mm works well.
After shortening the bar end you need to find a bolt with longer thread than the supplied one.
Very tidy, even with the ham fisted job!

Nice job with the install.
I had these on my old LX150: http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-bar-end-mirrors/crg-mirrors.htm I'm gonna buy them again for my S150 as soon as I get some $$. They're super easy to install. You just cut off the end of the rubber grip and mount it straight to the metal bar. No drilling required. They also fold in for when you're lane splitting. |
