The hydraulic system alarm has been a pain on one of my 500s for a while now.
It seems no one else has these issues but me ( and I use the hydraulic lock very sparingly). But both 500s have this problem to some degree.
As mentioned in my previous post, I just today had the mechanics disable the alarm system, and plug the sensor ( the source of the leaking despite having new ones mounted) as all other things seemed right and it just kept honking. Piaggio didn't know what the deal was either.
Just wanted people to know that disarming it is an option if you run into trouble with it.
It will require a bit more attention from us, ( we never leave it locked and not also on the stand anyway) but the bike is back home and
I think we can get on just fine without it.

Sounds like something is F'd with the wiring. I've *read* that the italian bikes are infamous for less than stellar wiring and waterproofing that wiring. Has your bike taken a beating of rain and melting ice and snow over the past 12 months?

For myself, I just couldn't stomach not having the ability to do something that was a large part of why I bought the thing in the first place.

No-it lives a fairly pampered life, if its raining i don't ride ( though it has caught me a few times-but nothing major. But you misread the post I think,--the wheels lock just fine-same as before, it is only the ALARM-(the horn honking trying to alert that the hydraulic fluids is low),-that has been disabled.

I like the locking mechanism, and hope to always have that function. Though if I had to, I could live without that as well. Hope it never comes to that.

The alarm goes off for a reason. Find that, cure found. By-passing an alarm is a last resort. I think you have taken that path too soon.

I understand completely, and I would prefer it worked as designed of course,
but the techs I have, have spent a couple days of their time ( Lucky I am under their extended warrantee) running every test they can muster. They were on the phone with Piaggio, who had no advice to offer for a solution .
And I have no mechanical skills myself, so am dependent on others here.
Given all that, it seemed the thing to do.

If a leak becomes obvious, it could be restored later. In the meantime, we were out riding yesterday and it was glorious here, so for now, all is well.
If we are careless, the day might come when we get off the bike , lock the wheels and drop it accidentally if they do not function from a leak we have not been made aware of. That seems the worst that might happen.

Is your ALARM still disabled?

is the disable done via the ecu or just unplugging something?
