what is your opinion of installing a malossi multivar, sito plus and 190cc on my s150? what's the benefit for my scooter?

There are a few different threads out there on the pro's and con's of 190cc upgrades. I've considered it - still am, I suppose - but I believe the consensus is that it's not like having a GT200 (-10cc) under your LX, but rather just a little more "oomph."
That said, this picture is the only one of it's kind I've seen from an LX, and it happens to be Eric's LX190 from SoCal: |

190
I am in the process of the installation Malossi 190 kit. The top end will increase with the proper weights, going to 11.5 g Dr. Sliders.
There will be an increase and the Lx 150 I ride will cruise at 60 easily before the kit install. If you are looking for a little more noticeable power in the mountains and higher top end try the 190- along with other changes, it is worth considering. |

Depends on what you are after. The malossi variator will completely transform an otherwise stock bike. With a mix of the weights it comes with you will have great acceleration all around but your top speed will suffer by about 5mph. The 190 will give more power at all speeds, but for more top speed you'll need an upgear.
I would make the changes one at time instead of all together so that if the results are not to your liking you know what to undo. |

I've done all of those mods. Here's what I've told others about them:
Quote: What kind of performance improvements/gains are you hoping to get? I have the 190 kit, Malossi Mutivar, and a Sito+ exhaust. Never did a full tally, but that's well over $1K worth of mods once labor is included. I paid for it all with part of an insurance settlement windfall. If it had been out of pocket, I'd probably regret some of the changes. Overall, I'm very happy with the 190 kit. It didn't change the essence of the scoot, but it made it spunkier. It was kind of like the scoot had been working out a lot. I have to say that it kind of felt like the scoot was eager for me to vegetable peeler the throttle. I was pretty impatient through the break in period-I really wanted to test the scoot's limits. Off the line and mid were definitely improved, as was torque uphill. On the top end, maybe a 3-5mph improvement. But, yeah, you can definitely just chill, same as before. As far as MPGs, I tried keeping track for about a week but then slacked off. I've never kept close track of my mileage, though, chalking it up as "pretty damn good." If I were to guess, I'd say it's dropped around 5mpg. My variator went kaput soon after, so I went ahead and put in a Malossi Multivar using mixed 9.5g and 14g weights. This has really smoothed out the acceleration curve. Off the line it's not as fast as when I put the kit in, but mid and high end torque are good. You can really feel it over 30mph. And it really moves when I hit the throttle between 40-50mph. Top speed isn't hugely improved, but I get there a lot faster. This was when all the parts, esp. rollers, were fresh. I was going to go with lighter rollers on the next change to try to improve my off the line acceleration, but have decided to stick with the current 9.5g/14g combo to keep my high end for the long distance San Jose ride. I did later try tracking my MPGs and they're pretty poor-under 60MPG. I've also put on some weight in the past couple of years and that has a significant effect on performance as well. Not everyone will get exactly the same results, though. Some engines are faster than others. Others will react differently to the mods for whatever reasons. A lot depends on the rider and all the other myriad factors effecting acceleration and speed. I've since switched to a Polini Max Speed variator. I prefer it to the Malossi; smoother delivery across the whole range. Better high end overall. Haven't really taken it as fast as possible, but had it up around 80 indicated today on a flat surface. |
