Just ordered a headlight modulator, now looking for a horn. Amazon lists two horns: Stebel Compact Airhorn ($35) which uses the existing horn button and Stebel Nautilus Compact Motorcycle Airhorn ($37) which has the 30 amp relay. Motorsports Scooters also has a Stebel Nautilus Airhorn for $55. The two horns from Amazon are both rated at 139 dB. Which horn should I get for a BV 250? Is the Stebel Nautilus horn from Amazon the same as the one from Motorsports Scooters? Amazon also offers a wiring kit for the second Stebel, is it worth it?

yes a stebel is worth it.. I've had a couple of people come in to our workshop wanting this installed, suddenly there has been a rise of stebel horns around fulham and chelsea lol. (West London) I've ordered mine in today and should be with me on mondat to install into my ET4 woohhooo..

The regular Stebel 136db is an easier fit and an easier install. The Nautilus is much louder, but you have to supply your own wiring and connectors.

How do they compare?
How many deciblels is the stock horn on LX or S 150? Is the Stebel electric horn loud enough to make the effort worth it?

Yup, it is Stebel fever these days. The Nautilus Compact for motorcycles was a tight fit but the Wiki tutorial was brilliant and she went in no worries.
The sound output is feakin' amaaaaaaaaazing! |

A friend of mine has a Stebel airhorn in her BV 250, so it can be done. It was done by the dealership so I don't know where they placed it and how difficult it was though.

I bought the Nautilus but didn't fancy all the relay wiring, so I took it back for the Magnum.
I think I might take that one back too now, and go for the relay one when I have some time to fit it properly. |

Stebel Nautilus / Wolo Bad Boy (Checkers). Wolo seems to be a generic to the Stebel...cost differential...none ~ same.
Relay wiring and inline 20 amp fuse a bit of a hassle but the thought of knowing that you've really got what you need to be is comforting. |

I'm thinking of upgrading my horn after a near miss the other day. I was going at about 80k's down Dandenong Road the other night when a dufus in a white station wagon did a u turn in front of me. To complicate matters when the driver did actually see me she hit the brakes! Lucky I was able to do a quick countersteering thingy and swerved around her.
However, the pathetic toot-toot of my horn after the even just added insult to injury! I felt like an angry pixie! I'm not really after an air horn that plays "La Cukooracho" (sic) so one of these Steble suckers should do nicely! |

I have a Nautilus on my BV500. It fits right in the front near where the stock horn is.
The link to instructions on how it's done on a BV500 is at: Stebel Nautilus installation on BV 500 I know the 250 has a different front end, but there are similarities and this posting may prove helpful...especially when it comes to wiring it all up. -Arjen |

Can you tell me how you did that? Thanks. |

Yes I made a bracket. Sorry that I didn't take any pictures. I made it with a piece of 1" wide x 3/32" steel strapping (available at Home Depot..I used a wood connector - made by the guys that make joist hangers - that way it was galvanized). It worked better than the wire tie approach used in the MV posting I referenced. I did not have to cut the tab off the horn. I do remember that I mounted it upside down with the horn oriented down towards the front.
