So after thinking for a couple days about a good way to lock my helmet to my scoot without the entire process being too cumbersome, i decided to go with the rig shown below. I hate top cases (no offense to those that have them, just not my cup of tea), and didn't want to hang the helmet off the seat hook (soft paint, hard helmet, easy to cut). I don't know if this has been done before, but it works for me and I just wanted to share:

Also makes it easy to run the red cable through my jacket sleeve and drape it over the bike.

Why do you need both the red cable and the combination lock? Wouldn't the lock be enough?

If I only used the combination lock, I run the risk of the strap being cut just as if it were hanging off the peg under the seat. The red cable adds protection by going through the full-face, while also allowing a way to secure a riding jacket. On its own, the red cable can be cut fairly easily using the right tool.

Then again, a simple answer would be that I'm paranoid. I'm willing to spend the extra 10 sec. putting them both on.

It looks like it is hung on the helmet loop.

It would probably be just as easy to use a bicycle U lock over the chin bar and around the rack rails.

True... if you don't mind scratching the bike and carrying around the extra pound of cargo.

But it's just a Scorpion helmet. Who would want to steal that?

hahaha... touché. Clap emoticon

Though I'm pretty sure this would work with any helmet.

I take it the underseat helmet hook doesn't work for this helmet?

My Scorpion is a tight fit when I use the underseat hook, but I am able to lock it up on the right side. There's no need to worry about the paint though, the helmet has a rubber ring along the bottom that won't scratch it.

While the lock and cable solution is certainly effective, it does seem to be overkill to me. I think the cable alone should be enough of a deterrent, but then again I don't know what the neighborhood is like where you have to park.

? The underseat helmet hook works for all helmets. Whether or not it requires an extender is another story (which I have also used).

I take it you don't mind using your helmet as a DPR (drunken piss receptacle).

Over two years and over 25K miles of hanging a pricey Arai helmet on the dedicated pin under the seat, with not a single scratch, say it is the better solution.

Your red cable will be more likely to leave scratches on the cowl, I'm afraid. But it affords you more security than the peg solution. However, that strap is hard to cut, with it all being very tight there under the seat edge.

Anyway, it is your call, and if it makes you happy, then yours is the best solution for you
