I have a Joe Rocket womens mesh jacket. It's starting to get a little stinky, and it looks more gray than powder blue. I think it's due for a wash but the tag does not have washing instructions. I know I need to remove the pads- but what water temp should I use? Does it need to line dry? The jacket is already a little tight, especially in the chest, so I really want to avoid any shrinkage.

I've washed my textile Frank Thomas more than once. Cold water, a little Spray N Wash on the more road-dirty areas; nice to get that powder blue back (worked wonders on the dingy white areas of my jacket). Be sure to use soap (). I usually let it air-dry afterwards. A friend even asked if I bought a new jacket; sounds like a detergent commercial, but it's twue!

Easy peasy.

remove the pads, zip all the zippers and fasten all the velcro. Wash gentle on warm. put it in a mesh bag if you are worried about it. Spray and Wash is a good idea (or similar). Throw in a few bath towels too, might help. Air dry. I find that washing doesn't cause these jackets to shrink, although age does. My Thurlow deerskin jacket is 30 years old and it has shrunk a lot .

jacket wash
Nikwax tech wash works well ,+ they also have a water proofing wash. There are good directions on the bottle. Many BMW dealers have this in stock.

When you take the armor out, make sure you remember which piece goes where if there is any possibility of confusing the shoulder and the elbow.

Last summer I felt like a real dummy when I pulled out my armor in front of the Corazzo folks to swap jackets. Turns out I had installed it wrong after a wash.

Thanks for all of the tips!

Think I can toss it in the dryer on cool without any issues?

No! Why risk it in the dryer? My Corazzo shop jacket dried in an hour in the sun today, and tomorrow is looking like the same beautiful weather.

Ditto. Air dry; it will be quick. My jacket is the one I use for winter, undoubtedly much heavier than your mesh, and it dries out in a matter of hours. Certainly fast enough to be worth not putting it through the wear and tear of the dryer. So I am sure yours will be quick enough.

That velcro tip above is a good one, too.

I wash my riding gear circa 4 times a year. I use Nikwax stuff (there are plenty of other brands, which you can get from any outdoor store) which is meant for outdoor clothes (incl goretex, etc), and which works in the washing m/c. I then reproof with some Nikwax proofing stuff (which also goes in the washing m/c), and finish this off with a tumble dry at 30C, or let it drip dry (imho, you get a better proofing result with a little tumble drying).

It works well on my 4 yr old jacket, which is still going strong.

The only thing you're supposed to do is to clean any regular detergent traces from the washing m/c (so I just put it on a hot wash with no load before I wash my bike gear.

If I'm feeling lazy, I don't take the armour out. That doesn't seem to do any harm. I do try to make sure that the velcro bits are done up, but whether that's more for superstition or for any practical purpose, I'm not sure.

Warm hand or machine wash with soap, (gentle cycle), line dry or hang in the shower stall.

I was just putting on my old Joe Rocket mesh jacket, one of the first in the US years ago, and there are washing instructions inside.

Quote:

-Do not machine wash
-Maximum temperature 40 C
-Do not soak
-Gently squeeze and if necessary carefully rub
-Rinse with care
-Do not wring, line dry
-Completely dry before storage

-Do not iron
-Do not dry clean
-Do not bleach

That pretty much says it all

I think when it comes to a mesh jacket, the hooked half of the velcro might grab onto the mesh bits and fray it up.
