I am about to go in for the *third* time to tighten the damned glove box hinge screw on my 09 250 GTS.

The first time I just tightened it. The second time I thought, 'Well, hell, maybe I just did not tighten enough'.

This time I need better living through chemicals.

What should I use? Going from memory, I believe it was a metal screw into a plastic thread plate.

Put some super-glue on the screw threads and screw it back in. I did this last year on my wife's GTS and it hasn't come loose again.

The warning label on my Loctite bottles say NOT to use it on plastic. I know that they make a separate product for use on plastic products so maybe that's what Turkman was referring to.

Understood - I posted this new thread after reading all the labels at the store and leaving very confused.

Thanks!

I used 2-part epoxy.

There was a thread a couple of days ago.

If you use epoxy, you may never be able to get it out again and some day you may want to.

I remember that (now that you posted it) but my threads are not stripped. I am going to try the red bottle loctite approach.

Thanks!

Red Vs. Blue
The RED loctite, the color of the fluid not the bottle, is a PERMANENT
Loctite and should only be used on components that you are not planning
to remove.

The BLUE loctite, the fluid, is removable loctite, one of the names it is
given is "Thread 'n lock" as it is placed onto the threads of the screw
or bolt and then screwed together. It will harden up after awhile and
prevent the bolt or screw from coming apart from vibration.

Loctite 243 is the recommended medium strength substitute for Loctite 2440

Loctite 222 MS Thread Lock and Sealant - Purple

6 ml. Tube. (Formerly 222 Threadlocker) A low strength product that is perfect for small fasteners #2 to 1/4" diameter (6mm), long engagement length fasteners, and components requiring occasional adjustment. This purple threadlocker is applied to threaded parts before assembly. Disassembly possible with hand tools. 222 MS meets MIL-S-46163A.

In a 3 step approach of maybe 4 (1 - tightened it, 2 - tightened it more and 3 - non permanent loctite) I went with the blue (serviceable/not permanent). If it backs off again, I'll go red (permanent).

Okay, now that that is done, one question - the two screws per side on the bottom of the rear shield assembly (page 55 of the Parts manual). Which hole gets the long screw and which hole gets the short screw? The manual shows parts 8 and 24 for the screws but I cannot tell from the descriptions. Blame gorilla hands on the work bench and some ADD.

To be clear I didn't glue the the screws in. I used the epoxy to repair the damaged holes as covered in the link. I obviously wasn't very clear about that.

But seriously I can't see any reason to unscrew them again unless the glove box is damaged, in which case it probably wouldn't matter much.

Red Loctite (I'll spell it right this time)

I didn't pay attention to the label, but so far so good after about 10,000 miles, or so.

Why not use clear finger nail polish. We po-po use it for grip screws and such. Dab a little on the threads and screw -in. Make sure if you do this to get the quick dry stuff.
