Hey Guys/Gals,

I am just finishing up my riding gear and I wanted some advice on riding boots. I just got a pair of thick Doc Martins from Zappos but they don't really have solid/firm ankle support they just have leather over the ankle. Kinda like a leather chuck tailor converse. I am not sure if they will cut it or not if anything happens.

I have some similar boots. I wear ankle guards that have armor held into place with elastic and slip over my socks. They make them for various sports, mine are for soccer and were originally attached to some shin guards, which were easily separated from the ankle guards.

Also, apparently it's a good idea to stay away from boots with steel toes, something about toes getting chopped off?

Icon Chukka boots...somewhat stiff, need to break in...good of ankle support...laces to tighten up at ankel...clip to hold down laces...never to be confused with hiking boots....

Used a pair of Sears Die Hard work boots...these were not that bad...you can get them on sale for ~ $60.00...

Total urban myth. Never happened. Probably can't. Even Mythbusters went after this one:

I wear Timberland steel toe. This is partly due to my occupation (need to go to construction site every week).

I wear these. They're comfy, have protection in the right places, and I don't have to change out of them at work.

These are very comfortable and look very cool!
This is an Italian company that produce some nice understated gear. Well worth a look. I have a plain black suede boot that is essentially the 'racer' without the busy stuff!

I picked up a pair of these from NewEnough. Very comfortable. Fit is as described on the website, meaning they're a good choice for those who typically wear "wide" width shoes.

Thrift life yo! I've got steel toed vintage ankle boots, engineers boots, chunky loggers boots, a great pair of tall Timberland hiking boots & multiple pairs of cowboy boots (the heels are great for this shorty). All those for less than the price of most new boots

I rode into work wearing my pink Sketchers today. They are my summer shoe. They have lasted for about 8 years now! Tough Shoe, but a bit clunky!

I also wear a Harley Davidson Boot.

I have a pair of Original SWAT 9" side zip boots I got for my MSF course last year. Got them cheap at $35 at the Big 5 sporting goods store.

Frank Thomas Pro Stunt Boots. Got a good deal on them but have not worn them as much as I thought I would. They're very comfortable when riding, but not so much when standing or walking.

My Puma RDBCs. Heavier leather than Docs. Very comfortable. Best I ever owned. I should have bought every pair I could find before they stopped making them.

Not quite the ultimate in protective footwear, but at least they're leather and cover the ankle. Plus I got them pretty cheap, they're very comfy and they look good on my scoot.

On the far right, well... I like 'em more than the Vespa branded Adidas. My Gumball 3000s. They're rally racing inspired so make me feel faster! About as protective as a pair of moccasins, but they sure look better.

I am sending back the DM to Zappos since they are nice and all but not what I was looking for. I ended up finding my new boots at Sears. I don't know much about them but they are way better protection than the DM's.

on sale for $74 and super super light.

I plan on sporting more normal shoes most the time but for my MSF course and highway riding at like 80MPH I wanted better protection. But I am really liking some of these addias gotta find me them bubble gum ones.
