Okay. So y'all encouraged me not to wait for the BV 300 (assuming that it is even in the works soon, if it is). Everyone thought that the BV 250 was a great option that I should jump on if I got a decent deal.
So I did. Found the scoot. Swung a decent deal. Rode away on it.
That was a few weeks back. I've now got about 350 miles on the BV 250 and, oh my gawd, I do love that scoot. I love my S 150 around town. But on open rural roads, there is no comparison. The BV runs up to speed with incredible power, it has great stability (love the 16" wheels, especially on the open road), and it is a fine performer all around. Love it.
Did I say I love it?
But here is the big surprise. I've now added gas twice. Each time, topping it off pretty high (the BV does not appear to be so sensitive to overfilling as many Vespa scoots . . . maybe it has something to do with the floorboard level gas tank and the fact that gas up to or even in the filler neck won't flow into any of the emissions components from the low tank?). On my last tank, still with an engine far from fully broken in, I got 80 mpg. An honest 80 mpg -- I almost overfilled the gas tank on the fill before that, and when I refilled, I did again. If anything, when I refilled, I may have slightly overfilled.
Anyway, about 138 plus miles on slightly over 1.72 gallons. Sweet. I wonder what it will do when the engine breaks in and really opens up.
Any BV 250 owners that can chime in with their experience?
All in all, very pleased with the BV 250, and perhaps the 300, if and when it comes out, will give performance I won't miss in exchange for efficiency, which I would miss.

Always good to have a high gas mileage. Unfortunately, it is diametrically opposed to the amount of fun you are getting out of your scooter. So, once you think your engine "opened up" and you'll open up your throttle more aggressively, down will go that mpg. But it is what it is, these bikes are not a perpetuum mobile.
Enjoy it.

Oh, I have totally been having fun. Quick starts from a stop at intersections. Several higher speed runs on the open road. All in all, I think I've been riding more assertively and/or aggressively than on scoots with smaller engines (like my S 150). Perhaps that is why the high mileage came as a surprise to me. I haven't been molly-coddling it one bit.

I've had my BV 250 for about 5 weeks now-took it in for the first service last week and currently have 725 miles on it. Most of the riding on it has been at 50+mph.
I am currently getting 83 miles per gallon. I can hardly believe it when I fill and calculate. At first, I thought maybe I had underfilled or calculated wrong but I've had several fillups and still am getting incredible mileage.

I have had my BV 250 since January. I probably average about 60 - 65 MPG.

I've been averaging about 60 MPG over the last couple of years. My BV has a carb and is not fuel injected.

Had my BV500 a little less than a year. MPG seems to be sharply increasing in the last month or so, I have 5000km on it.

Congratulations!
Concerning mileage... aside from a bad fuel sensor, which dipped my mpg and messed up my average, I've consistently averaged around 78mpg over the past year (roughly 4,700 miles so far).
I love it, and more importantly, my wife loves it. We ride all over the place together, on roads I didn't even know existed. Took it across the border to Point Pelee in Canada a few weeks ago -- and in a couple weeks we'll be riding across the state to Michigan's West coast, for our one year wedding anniversary.
The BV is hands down one of the best & most enjoyable purchases either of us have ever made.

If the fuel gauge on my 300 was a little more accurate I could tell you what kind of mileage I'm getting. Anyway it gets better gas mileage than my 03 Chevy s10.
