Has anyone removed the nuts, press-fit into the handlebar ends (GTS 300/others), that are used to hold the handlebar ends on?

I'm thinking I just need to drill them out. Unless they can be extracted otherwise.

I've some bar end mirrors I want to use, but those troublesome nuts have to go (beware the woman that laughs to loudly at that.)

I think you're talking about the allen head bolts that hold the bar ends on? If so, just take an allen wrench to them and they will unscrew. When I replaced the bar ends on my GTV with the heavier ones that came with the top case, I had one that was stubborn. It had to be drilled but it was a piece of cake. Moisture gets in there and rust sets in on the threads, making them difficult to remove.

I have had difficulties with the bolts rounding off when trying to remove them. Try a two pronged approach. Put an allen key into the bolt AND also wrap a disposable rubber glove around the bar end to grip the bar end and protect it. Carefully lock some vise-grip or channel-lock pliers around the bar end and unscrew (anti-clockwise) with the allen key and the pliers at the same time. If you have already rounded off the bolts, the second method will usually free the bar end on its own. Just buy a new bolt to replace the wrecked one! Hope this helps!

No no, I can get the bar end off just fine. But inside the bar is the nut that you screw the long barend nut into. It's this nut I'm wanting to remove. I need a hollow bar to use with my mirror and that nut is the trouble.

I've drilled things out like this before, but thought I'd ask to see what others have done before. It's most likely just tack welded in.

Thanks Doug!

Those are exactly the mirrors I picked up, so that was very helpful.

Perfecto.

Using the vice grip with a rubber glove worked like a charm. Saved me from having to drill out the bolt.
