I know this has come up in the forums before, so please bear with me for asking again. I am looking for grips for my 400 that will help eliminate vibration as well has keeping my hands from going numb. I have looked at the foam ones, but there are so many different types I am hoping to get your experienced advise. I was also told by two different vendors that the MP3's are very difficult to replace the grips, any knowledge of this.
Thanks
Added note I just got my 400 about a week ago. So far added a loud horn, modulating tail and headlights, rider backrest and a Fabbri windscreen from PJ's who has the best customer service.

check out this post on padded grips.

Hand grips

I bought a pair of cheap foam grips for a mountain bike, soaped them up good and slipped them right over the existing grips. I did this just before a 4000k trip and had very little hand fatigue at all even after riding for 6-7 hours. I figure even if I have to replace them once a year, for $4.99, I can't go wrong. I also bought an Air Hawk seat cushion, no numb-butt either.

Welcome John. You sure have added some good stuff to your scoot in a short time...good 4 you!
As far as grips go....best thing to do is to click on the "search" button and type in the word grips. Then in the drop down menu choose "MP3 discussion" and then click search. you'll not only find one discussion on grips but several! Go 4 it .....btw....you don't always have to remove stock ones...good news huh?

If you install heated grips, these are a larger diameter than standard. Very useful when winter sets in as well.

John,

Welcome aboard and congratulations on your new MP3-400. I have GripPuppies on all of my bikes, not for vibrations reduction, but just hand comfort. Your vibration problem might not be so much the grips as it may be your gloves. Take a look at Qwi Nerve Protector Motorcycle Gloves. I have been wearing these for about 4 years now and no more numb hands. They are very well made, reasonably priced and, at least for me, they work! I presently have 4 pair. They are designed by Dr. Joseph Yoa, MD. You can order them directly from the web site. Disclaimer: I have no commercial interest in Qwi, just a very satisfied customer.

You mentioned in your original post that you had added a driver's backrest. Would you please elaborate as to what/how you did it? Pictures are always helpful and appreciated.

Again, welcome.

Welcome. For vibration you may want to look into adding heavy bar ends too. There have been some threads here on them. For numbness larger grips may not solve your problem. Most times it is just your hand position and grip. Relax your grip a bit and sometimes it helps to put your thumb up on top of the grip. There is also a recent thread on that here.

In your list of mods you said rider's backrest and not driver's backrest. Would like to see a pic too.

Just ordered one. For twelve bucks it sounds like a good bet it will be useful! Thanks for the tip!

I only use mine if doing longer rides of more than 30 miles and don't even have it on for the around town stuff at all.

Thanks to all of you for your advise. I have ordered the foam grip puppies, Qwi gloves, and a crampbuster. Am also looking into a seat modification by Mean City. As to the backrest I caused some confusion in that I should have said Passenger not Rider, The backrest is a givi, looks great, passengers like it and it was super simple to install.
