My rear tyre looses air ever so slowly - it takes about a month before I notice a difference in the handling. I should really just top the air up once a week but because the change in handling happens so slowly I don't really notice it - bit like boiling frogs in cold water (not that I've ever done that). Wondered whether it might be worth putting that air leak preventer gunk into my tyres.

Does it work well? Are there any downsides in doing it?

I've used Ultraseal before and can recommend it. No downsides, but it is polite to warn the mechanics when they are changing tyres.

I´ve used Slime on my motorcycles ever since I had a tyre deflate rapidly at high speed. Does what it says on the tin.

Only thing to watch is check your tyres regularly for nails, cuts, bits of glass stuck in the tyre. Sort of things that would normally cause a puncture.

Thanks for advice.

One review on ultraseal said it would only protect the crown of the tyres - does that mean that if my leak was around the rim or valve then it wouldn't work?

Do (non-tubed) tyres deflate that fast these days - I've had loads of punctures but just found the tyre goes from mushy to wobbly over a minute or two.

Would you put the stuff in just the rear tyre as that's the one that always picks up the nails etc?

How many applications (scooter tyres) is a tube of the stuff good for?

Is it worth using if your tyres are already half way through their life?

They mean it won't fix a sidewall puncture - if you get one of those it's curtains for the tyre!

I don't use the stuff regularly but I tried it in a situation like yours, when the flaking paint on my Nexus wheels was causing an imperfect seal and slow air leak. It didn't seem to help in my case.

my dealer charges a little more for the cleaning of the rim if you put "slime" in it

My turn to ask. I too have been losing air in the rear tire of my GTS. Upon checking it today I found a very thin finishing nail, (almost looks like a staple) that has punctured the tire in a section of the tread. I'd like to hold off replacing the tire (it's the stock tire) as I'm sure I have at least 700 to 800 miles or so left on the tire. My scooter has around 2,450 miles on it. Is is Ok to put some of the sealant stuff in there to hold me off for awhile, and if so which stuff?. I usually don't do any highway or speeds over 55 mph riding.

Personally -- under those circumstances -- I'd pull out the nail before it causes any damage to the belts, put in a proper plug (like the "Stop and Go"), and ride it for those last few hundred miles.

Others may disagree, but the most important thing is to get that piece of metal out of there before it tears anything up.

Thanks for the info. I take it that plug requires removing the tire? If I have to do that I might was well replace the tire as I plan on having my Vespa dealer do the work. The issue is I really don't want any local scooter shop to do it for fear they screw something up, and I'm concerned about me doing the work since you have to remove the muffler and I don't want to bugger up that gasket.

I once had the green "slime" in one of my tyres and when I came to change the tyre the slime had striped the paint from the inside of the rim

I wonder if places like Advanced Auto and such carry them. Also, this is one tiny little nail it might be to small to even plug, but I'll check it out, and Thumbs Up = the NEW Improved Thanks!

Update: I just ordered one of their kits and the good news is they are just up the road from me, well a hundred miles or so up the road, right here in Illinois. I also found out from talking to the owner Bill that they do caution using them with steel belted tires, due to the possibility of the steel belts chaffing the plug, so just FYI.

Get the kit before removing the nail though and you'll need something nearby to re-inflate the tyre

Yes, and I'm not going to remove the nail until the kit comes in too so I can find the little bugger and pull it out so I know where the hole is.

I was looking at the StopnGo page and there are quite a few repair kits. Which kit did you end up ordering?

The Pocket Kit for $31.95. He even shipped it same day, I received the UPS tracking number in about an hour and it is supposed to be delivered tomorrow, talk about service.

If that kit is like the one I have, it includes a tool to smoothe the edges of the hole and make it big enough to receive the plug.

There's no feeling as satisfying as fixing a puncture by yourself and carrying on with the journey instead of going home in a breakdown van 8)

I watched the video on their web site site that shows how to repair the hole, so there is a tool included that takes care of that issue.

Great, if you think about it tell Bill you saw the post on MV when he asks how you found out about his product.

+1,000,000

if you EVER put ANYTHING in your tires please take the time to inform the mechanic-- NOT the service advisor-- THE MECHANIC that is ACTUALLY working on your bike!

i rolled into work one morning on a tire change that was from the night before. 7.35am and i was COVERED in green slime. me, the work bench, the bike, the foor, everywhere.

kinda put and edge on the day, so to speak...

best,
