Sorry if this has been discussed, but I just this week started noticing roundels (or parts thereof) and circle-slash symbols (or parts) under some members' avatars. Are these generated from people clicking the "helpful" or "obnoxious" icons on members' posts? If so what's the formula? If someone gets tagged as "helpful" five times and "obnoxious" five times, do they cancel out?

It would appear the ten minute downtime for MV about 0915 PDT today for "...fixing the ballot-stuffing problem" has [once again] hidden the symbols under the avatars. Clearly they are intended for the moderators and / or dark overlords that get the pleasure of reducing MV members to simple visual cues... MHO, of course.

Those symbols are an indication of the member's overall karma, and yes, they're directly related to the "helpful" and "obnoxiious" buttons at the bottom of each post. Yes. A positive and a negative cancel each other out. If you see the targets or circle-slashes under someone's avatar, it's because there's a preponderance of their posts rated in one direction or the other.

We did have some ballot stuffing going on, and that's been corrected. There are still a good number of people with targets and circle-slashes, though. If you're curious, you can sort the memberlist by Karma, either ascending or descending.

I do occasionally jess but things move so fast over there I usually run back here and hide.
