Hey guys/girls,

I am fairly new to this forum and thought it would be a good idea to introduce myself. My name is Joe and i'm 30 years old. I live in the live music capitol of the world (austin, tx for those of you that don't know) and LOVE it here!

I've been into the local vespa shop and talked with thovas. He seems like a pretty nice dude and knows his stuff. I am working to try and get myself a piaggio fly 150. I'll be able to get all around austin with it which is what I do 95% of the time. I have also seen a lot of other scooter riders around and am looking foward to filling up once every other week as opposed to twice a week (lol).

Forgive me if this has been posted but, does anyone know of any local scooter rallys/rides/meets that I could check out once I get the new scoot?

Again, thanks again for the info. I look forward to becoming a more active member of this forum.

Welcome!!

Yes, you can definately enjoy all of Austin on a 150. I used to go all over the place there on a kitted 50 with no problems. I even made it up that insane hill on Spicewood Springs. Not very quickly unless I got a running start, mind you.

Not sure how the scooter scene is since I left, but I know there's plenty of other Austinites here who could chime in.

Hi! Check out the link to the Austin Scooter Club in my signature line. We have rides almost every weekend. We also had a fantastic first rally last May. Over 100 folks attended. Not bad for our first rally. Coming up, our friends over at Alamo Scoots in San Antonio are having a rally the first weekend of October. 3CR4 was a blast last year and 3CR5 promises even more. We should have a faily large contingent riding down to SA for this years event. Welcome to the board and hope to see you around!

Nice choice of scoots. Get some training and good gear and learn how to ride "heads up" -- you will have a ton of fun and feel GREAT about your choice!

Oh believe me, i've taken the rider's saftey course when I first moved down here (thought it was a good investment). I have done pretty good so far in not killing myself or anyone else around me! (lol)

I was almost all for the LX150 but when I found out that the fly 150 was basically the same scoot (with a fiberglass/plastic body) for less coin, I was all over it! I did ride it once before when I was just "looking" (and thanks again Thovas if you're a member of this board) and it was really impressive. Now that i'm thinking about that experience, I remember a little hill that I went up while on the test ride and the fly 150 handled it like a champ!

Now the only thing holding me back is the money for it. If I can figure out a way to get that, then i'm golden. Tried the financing at the vespa dealer and got turned down (can't figure that one out). Oh well, i'm sure i'll figure something out.

Wish me luck!

Welcome! I am in Austin too. Just got mine in April. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to ride as much as I have wanted. Hopefully, that will change soon. Hope to see you around.

Then we'll have to meet up sometime and have coffee or lunch then go for a ride.

I was over in beaumont a couple of weekends ago doing a dealer trade for the shop I work at. (they have a honda/harley/victory/polairs/vespa shop over there). Didn't get the chance to see much of the town while I was there.
