This is the second time that this has happened. The first time was probably 6 weeks or so ago. I got back to the office after lunch and went to shut down the bike using the ignition key. I turned off the key but the bike kept running and the display stayed "on". I tried it several times and it just kept running. I hit the kill switch, engine stopped, turned to key off and the display went down. Turned the key back on, display came up, turned the key off and display went down. Has anyone else had this happen? Any ideas as to what might be going on here? I usually shut down the bike with the emergency switch since that is what we teach in the MSF classes, but I didn't do it today. I guess I will try the key for a while to see what happens, especially since I am planning on putting around 1000 miles on the MP3 over the weekend of August 13 - 16. I would not want to be 300 miles from a dealer and have the ignition fail.
Thanks,

Sound like the ignition switch itself is loose on the barrel. Should be easy enough to check.

Thanks Jim. I will take a look at that and post my findings.

Ignition switch
mine became loose on my 250 . All the panels have to come off. And there are two allen head bolts that get alot of use from all the cranking we do up there with, trunk, gas lid, locking of forks, and shutting off the bike. One of mine would have fallen out if not for one of the cables going to trunk or gas lid caught it and held it there . Some medium lock tight would probably be the fix-up here. Don't know if this is for your prob though. Maybe help others. Good luck Ed
