Had a quick fruitless search but does anyone know if it is possible to remove one of the bolts that hold the rims together. One of mine has sheared off Have tried mole grips but the b'stard will not budge.
Thanks all.
hmmm...SOMETIMES they are tapped. Like, on the back of a lambretta brake drum, they are tapped and thread in there, and can be removed and replaced if they strip out.
I don't know that these can come out ..i think they are welded in place.
I've heard of people grinding the head off the one side, drilling or punching the remaining stud out and using a bolt in its place. It's safe enough but a little more trouble when changing a tire.
I bust one on mine when putting on a new tyre, don't know me own strength. I just center punched the back of the stud and drilled it out on a drill stand at work. I fitted a bolt in its place and now use it for a spare
Id buy another rim but it'd need blasting and coating to match me others and I'm tight
Indeed it was spot welded in 4 places Bought a new chrome rim for £23 in the end and a new inner tube to go with it. Have just finished putting it all back together.
Cheers for the posts.
Like the OP I have bust a nut - however it was the permanent one on the spare mount. Infact is has broken off near the base. I have the spare held on 2 studs at the moment (seems fine) but want to get a third back on before too long. Is the best course of action just to centre punch, drill and replace with a bolt? It will have to be a hand drill as i'm not strong enough to hold the bike under a stand drill...
