Okay, here's the scenario: Husband obtained his learners permit but silly him - he let it lapse. I miss going for scoot fun with him, but he refuses to go two-up with me! He thinks it's too emasculating or some such shit lol!

Now you guys are clever - how do I convince him to be my pillion!!

If you figure it out, please let me know. I convinced my boyfriend to take the MSF course with me and get his license. I thought it would be neat if we could go do little trips together on the Vespa. He's larger than me, so it's not the easiest thing to have him ride pillion.

So far, I think he's been on the scoot with me maaaaaybe 6 times, for less than 5 miles each time. He's ridden it around the block twice. I keep asking if we should sell his helmet, because he's not using it, and it's too big for me. We both agree he should have more practice before taking a passenger, but he just won't do it.

It is going to take some effort and understanding from your side to make this happen. I have a two stage plan.

1. Tell him that the only way to properly and safely support himself (this is all about safety as you know), is to wrap his arms around your bust. It might be helpful if you select your riding gear carefully to maximize the safety effect. A leather bustier is well know for its ability to enhance safety. It is clearly superior to tassels. Maximizing safety in this case is all about ensuring that he holds on securely to your bust.

2, Once you have coerced him to hop on back, try wiggling your butt against him in a playful manner. If he mistakes that as an effort to push him off the back, remind him that he needs to hold on to your bust securely and that you were simply testing his holding skills. Again...this is all about safety.

Oh...and try to keep your mind on the road...safety is paramount.
This is the look you are going for. Very safe.

NFW would I ride pillion. And not just because it's emasculating; it'd be friggin' dangerous to put my ~285lb ass behind my ~140lb wife.

Stuff him in the cage and take him to the DMV to renew his learner's permit. Better yet, sign him up for rider class and get full endorsement.

I second the stuffing him in to the car and taking the MSF/DMV idea.

IMO if someone doesn't want to go for a ride/doesn't feel comfortable riding, don't try to convince them. They should want to do it because they want to, not because someone else wants them to....

So true...on occasion I will take the Metro out and it's a blast (I really pay no mind to what other folks think..it's cool!). BTW we named our Metro after cats...Coco. Coco (no nonsense personality) has short legs and whenever she tries to walk fast her legs have to move twice as fast as the other cats to keep up.

Hence, whenever I'm TWO...I keep telling "Coco" to give all she's got (especially going uphill) and I picture her tiny legs flaying away.. Laughing emoticon

Love that cat / scoot!

Thank you Schergil. If you look closely you will see F1 on the TV. I love to detail the scooter and clean all of those hard to reach spots when I am watching F1 in the living room.

Mah bitch on the back...
I had the same issue (well nearly- we're both boys!) for ages. Then, last week we bought him a helmet and doubled up for the first time, just for a trip to the local mall (Hello Marrickville Metro!).

It was wobbly at first, as he kept trying to lean- we had to stop, and I told him to "be a block of cement" ("engage the core?" "yes darling!"). After that it was smooth rolling, apart from nearly being wiped out by a blind stupid ingnorant mole in a Land Rover Disco (after a quick blast of the stebels we heard the limp "sorry" out the window). After we did our shopping the trip home was uneventful, and i could tell he was getting used to it as his grip had loosened a bit.

So after those inauspicious beginnings he has been converted- as soon as we got home he asked "next week can we go to Bronte Beach for brunch" and "can i be your bitch"!! So today we are off to Bondi Junction to meet some friends, and he wants me to go the long way!

Once you get 'em on, you'll never get 'em off...

OMG great replies thanks all! I agree, I will force him to re-do his learners permit - I think you have to have it for three months efore they'll let him test for his licence. Until then I'll have to don my leather chaps and Xena Prncess Warrior leather breastplate - if that's what it takes!

Goldentrowl: yep, that's my little westie girl she has two friends to play with, an 18 y/o scotty and an increadibly naughty 3 y/o scotty. Your one is too cute!!!

If his complaint is that the GT pillion position sucks and is uncomfortable - well, I'd agree with that one. I like passengers on the P200 much, much better.

If it emasculating, well - I've had that complaint too. Stupid silly boys.

Wait a minute - why bother taking him with you at all if he's gonna balk and whine? Get on the scoot and ...BE FREEE!!!!
