I am considering moving from a GTS 250 to a GTS 300 - is it worth the extra money?
It is a lot of cash for seemingly little extra (and a crappier dashboard!)

I use the scooter daily in Manhattan, town driving only (so top speed not an issue) but acceleration is important (taxis!) so the extra torque may be useful.

Has anyone who has made the move got any advice?

Thanks

I think the dash on 300 is way nicer than the 250.

I think the general consensus is that the 300 is noticeably faster off the line than the 250. Since you drive every day in Manhattan, that may be worth the investment. Or not. Hard to say. Go test drive a 300 and see if you can feel enough of a difference to make it worth your while.

If you're looking for better starting and mid range torque, then you should definitely move to a 300. You will notice a significant difference between the 300 and 250 in stop & go traffic.

I moved from a 250 to a 300. However, for different reasons than you. Most of my riding is longer distance commutes, usually over the mountain from home to work. On that ride, I noticed that I needed a little more oomph to hold my speed going up the grade. The 300 does a lot better in that respect.

In town, I honestly cannot detect much difference. Both bikes take off pretty well off the line. On the gauges...I miss the thermometer and 24-hour clock of the 250. Even though the thermometer is know to be very inaccurate, it is still a gauge on when to be especially careful about ice on the roads, which can cause all kinds of problems when driving mountain canyon twisty roads. The fuel gauge on the 300 is inaccurate, but will be fixed under warranty next time I take the bike in for its regularly scheduled maintenance.

As has been mentioned in numerous posts, the build quality of the 250 is a tad better than on the 300. Enough that it is noticeable, but not enough to "really bug me".

Only you can decide if the extra expense is worthwhile for you. I lost money on the 250, but am glad I made the switch.

I have owned a GTS 250 for three years now and have a LV pipe and Corsa Powerbooster on it. I just dropped it off at the dealership after my final ride on it this morning. Tomorrow I pick up my new 300 Super. I have ridden a not yet broken in 300 Super for half a day. I wasn't expecting much, but in fact I was very very surprised at the big difference in torque between the two even with the mods on my 250. If you are like me, and you are, and you do most of your riding in the hustle and bustle of downtown traffic, I think you would appreciate the added torque of the 300, I know I'm going to. 8)

I think, as others have said here, that off-the-line performance is much better on the 300 than the 250. However, it runs out of steam at the top end (freeway speeds) faster than the 250 does.

So it really depends on what kind of riding you want to do.
