Weird...no autolube. It's not a US market P-series.
Also weird : key switch next to the helmet hook like asian bikes have, rather than on the headset like early P-series have. Could this possibly be a PGO or something? The horncast is wrong for a 1979 as well... and it appears to have an electric start button, which the '79 wouldn't have had. Also, i've never seen that seat before. |

well, i'm not suggesting it's a bodge, necessarily...
but i want you to be aware that it's not a US-spec P-series. It might be a euro model, like Jeremy has. Maybe he can chime in if this seems similar to his ( with the under-seat key thing ) Or, it could be a PGO ( Taiwanese-made ) p-series ... or one of the other licensee-built p-series, as opposed to a real-deal italian one. -Eric |

Eric's spot on as usual! Then again, don't let that put you off, PGO (Vespa Licensed Manufr.) or not, it's still a good buy. Go get it and don't post anymore till you have it!

It's five hours from here, but I think I'll be able to swing it for a P. I'll head out tomorrow if I hear from them by then. Then we'll really get to see what's going on with that thing. |

I recommend a Maico Mobil. Also, i recommend learning how to play the tuba. Strap the tuba to the Maico Mobil, and then bust it out in traffic jams and play an "oom-pah oom-pah" type bass line. Also, wear leiderhosen...if you can get armored leiderhosen that might be a good idea as well - safety first, after all.

It's a bike where NOBODY could possibly appear to be too rotund for. That scoot does all the "fat" for you.

i have said it before
the pgo is a sound bike when piaggio was short on parts during the crazy 60's and 70's they out sourced parts from pgo and even had 'piaggio' 'italy' stamped on them. yes, many of us are running pgo machined parts in our italian only bikes. ![]() |

Okay, seriously, I have a reason to continue on with this thread now. A guy just emailed me pics for an allstate he's selling. He has almost no information on it other than that he bought it year or so ago, realized it was going to cost him more than he though to restore it, and he hasn't cranked it since then. He's not even interested in TRYING to crank it, he just wants to get rid of it. $600. He says he doesn't think it has any wiring in it "for the lights", which probably means, it doesn't have any wiring it in period. He also swears the body "doesn't look as dinged up as the picture" and that the guy before him "bondo-ed some of the larger dents". Also, is this a small or largeframe? Can anybody ID the year?
EDIT: It'd help if the picture I tried to attach weren't gigantor. lol ![]() |

I mean...it's a late 50's allstate.. '58 or '59.
You're going to pay 600 and then have another 1000 in it to buy all the parts you need for it. I'd pass. Get a complete runner, not a project for your first bike. He's selling you a rattle canned, non-running, non wired, totally common and not entirely desireable scooter for $600? I think you're getting ripped off. I'd say "start it and i'll give you $600...otherwise i'll give you $200" |

Nice one Jimmy 8)
I love the surf rack option. And a common sense price too. As mentioned before mate (OP) we all really want to make sure you get a GOOD scooter to start with. We are a small but true community. Steering you in the right direction. P series are common and are generally easy to get parts for. Hang in there. Cheers |

Cheers That being said maybe you should Offer $250 and fix it up, learn what you can and then decide if you want to trade up. You did start off posting on the Atlanta forums saying that you wanted a couple hundred dollar barn find to fix up. You can learn about the differences in the models from this site (small frame, large frame, wide body, etc.). http://www.scooterlounge.com/Vespa/Sears/Sears.shtml ⚠️ Last edited by price on UTC; edited 1 time
