Getting pretty warm up here in the desert, and with the Springtime bugs pretty much gone, I decided it was finally time to swap out my full-sized Vespa windscreen for the flyscreen. BOY, what a difference!
I didn't realized how "protected" I was behind that large screen. Not only did it deflect any errant flying bugs, but also most of the wind. I could ride with my face shield up, sans glasses, and still hear the engine.
Now, with the fly screen, I'm blasted by the wind, have to ride with the face shield down, and if I turn my head slightly side-to-side, the wind "grabs" the bottom of the helmet and torques it sideways. And the noise is tremendous. How high does decibel ratings go? Gotta be close to the upper limit.
I think I'm going to put the large screen back on and I'll just "suffer" in the heat of the desert. It was not "fun" riding the Vespa when I had to fight the elements, (i.e., wind).

Have you considered the mid-size?...I use a fly screen now and live with the shortcomings...maybe the middy might work. My height is 5'8" with normal upper body torso (waist to shoulder).
Note: I use the fly screen because it does deflect to some degree while at highway / freeway speed...but allows air flow to keep my cool when it's hot...and since I live in Hawaii it does get a bit warm and humid. Today it will get up to about 90 F but the humidy will be ~ 70 - 80%.

back in the 80's some jap bikes had little vents in the windshields, much like you do in your car, that can be adjusted and direct air flow where needed. I think someone here did the mod to their scoot.

Check out this thread and when you get to Laminar modification...I believe this is what you might have been referring to...provides and extension to block wind and then a slip stream for the air flow to still go up provide some cooling effect.
