For my new BV 250, I've narrowed the topcase choice to the Givi E370 or the Coocase V36. If I were to get the Givi, I think I would get the AdMore Lighting kit for it, which are about twice as much as the Givi lights, but worth it I think.
(here's a link to see them https://www.twistedthrottle.com/trade/productview/4638)

Pricewise, the Givi and Coocase then come out close. The Givi, with the gloss silver top, would be about $190. Shipping is free. The lighting kit, with shipping, looks like it would be about $145 (ouch!). For a total of $335. The Coocase is $249 (free shipping), and comes with lights. But the mounting plate is extra (about $65 with shipping through Twisted Throttle). Total: $314.

Right now, I'm giving the Givi the edge, because the Admore lighting kit seems to be a much better lighting system. Easily worth $20 more. But what about the topcases themselves? I've read good things about them both. Are they comparable? Anyone who has used them both that strongly favors one over the other?

I live in RI, so I actually went to Twisted Throttle to compare the E370 to the Coocase V36 in person.

The differences I saw:

Quality was very similar. Coocase a bit stiffer at the hinge, but not by very much. Lighting kit on the Givi was much better--Coocase LEDs are not that big or bright, but they can be seen, especially at night or in bad weather.

I preferred the Givi mounting plate.

It was a tossup, but I went with the Coocase because it comes with a very nice fitted lining. This lets you stuff a helmet in there without fear of scratching it, and pads other items when you're driving so the don't rattle.

The electric lock seemed like a gimmick, but I use it all the time. Sometimes you have your hands full and it's easier to push the button on the fob than mess with keys. The alarm is useless.

Either case is very good quality and I wouldn't hesitate to get the Givi if you like it better.

P.

PS Pictures of my GTS with the Coocase are up on Twisted Throttle's website.

P. -- The lights you saw on the Givi -- where they the Givi lights, or the Admore lights?

Thanks for posting your response. Very helpful -- I didn't expect to find someone that has compared the two head to head. I'm going to mull it over some more, but the lights on the Givi may swing me that way.

They have the topcases mounted on display racks which have electric. I'm pretty sure the lighting on the Givis were OEM Givi.

I can't speak to the quality of either, as I've just got a factory topcase on my LX150. However, after an almost-encounter on Wednesday with a Land Rover, I would strongly encourage you to pick the one with the best (read: brightest) lights.

I was nearly run down by a LR Discovery while slowing to a stop to make a left turn across the oncoming lanes into my neighborhood. I presume he didn't notice my flashing brakelight under my topbox ("BackOff" flasher by Signal Dynamics) as I slowed. I would've had a clear shot across the lanes into my neighborhood, but oncoming cars forced me to wait for an opening. I glanced in my mirror as I slowed - the LR was 30-40 yards bac - and thought, "he's coming up awful fast, but he has to see me, afterall I was just in front of him at the red light back there." Another second or so passed, and I heard the screeching of tires beginning to lock up.

"Oh shit. Here we go."

Fortunately for me, there was room for him to move over to his right a lane, and oncoming traffic had just cleared, so I hammered the throttle to try my best to get out of the way. I wasn't hit, but the sound alone of tires starting to lock up was enough to get me re-interested in secondary lighting options for my topcase. I just don't think he saw my brake lights down below.

In short, even though you might feel the extra few dollars on the more expensive Givi, I don't think you'll regret the brighter lights when coming to a stop with traffic bearing down on you. Chalk it up to piece of mind...

I have an older Givi case with the Givi brake light kit. To that I've added a modulator so it flashes the Givi brake light when I brake. I would suggest that you consider getting a modulator as well to increase your visibility when stopped.

I have the Coocase on my BV 250. I really like the remote control for unlocking the case. The case is also lined. Nice for storing my helmet. The lights are not that bright, but I don't drive at night. The alarm is too quiet, mostly worthless.

Already have the backoff modulator. But I like what the Admore lighting kit offers -- running lights (dual band of LEDs), plus they brighten when you brake, and each side flashes with the turn signals. Seems a more sophisticated solution than most. Guess I find myself headed towards getting the Givi, due to the Admore lighting option. Thanks for the input, everyone.

Just checked out the Twisted Throttle catalog listing for Admore lighting.

Very impressive!!!

Can't hurt to be visible.

Any Brake Light Kits for OEM Vespa Top Cases?
Are there any Brake Light Kits for OEM Vespa Top Cases?

Putting Vespa Top Cases on the LX150 and GTV250(Mainly because they match the color of the scooters) next week, but would love to add some additional integrated lighting as the OEMs don't have the lighting ability.

Are there any products or has anyone rigged anything? Sending in both scoots to get Stebel horns, possible garage door opener, and AC electric charger options and would love to everything at one time!

Thanks in Advance!
