Really? Even the non-halogen on my 2005 Stella is plenty bright for me to ride at night. I would assume the halogen on the BV would be much much brighter.
+1

I'd check the alignment on that headlight. Every bike I've owned has required some sort of realignment (lx150, GTS, beo 500) - and they've all had plenty of light to throw down on the road.

Back on topic - love riding in the night - lets me unwind after a hard days work.

I love riding at night and do so just for the hell of it - the quiet, the speedo glow, and the little beam which points the way are all very relaxing - combined with increased alertness and aroma of 2-stroke which gets drowned out in the day by the dieselly stink of buses and trucks, it's a very pleasant experience. I do want HID's though

I work the sunrise shift so i ride 5 nights a week. It's nice in the summer at 10:00PM when your the only one on the road. It's not so pleasant in the winter months.

The single headlight has very little illumination and once I got on a unlit stretch of road, it became quite apparent that the headlight was not of the same strength as a car headlight.

So I could not see that far ahead and that bothered me.

I think I could do it in a pinch, as long as there were street lights, but I avoid it since it is even harder to see scooters at night.
Yes, I can see how you could feel this way on a BV500

You really have to "ride within your lights" on a scooter
and if you're used to riding at at least 50 mph during the daytime,
once you're away from effective streetlights, you'll need to slow down a lot at night

Most of my night riding is on very familiar roads, so I already know about major obstacles
And also, I try very hard to avoid riding on unfamiliar wet roads--I find the glare off the road from the headlights very confusing

Absolutely love night riding, but only with a FF helmet. The constant 'bink, bink bink' of the bugs makes you happy that you're covered.

I just went for a ride this PM and discovered that my headlight wasn't doing anything, it was 'illuminated' but not throwing any light. My bright was great but with oncoming traffic I couldn't use it. Is it possible my low beam has 'partially failed'?

Dark riding
I will ride at night during Scooter Rallies and when I am in a pinch. I have modified the lighting on my GTS with AMBER SIDE LIGHTS. As soon as I turn my key in the ignition the lites come on. Is has saved me plenty of times out in the dark, My scooter is lit up light a Christmas Tree. Very bright for all to notice. The lights are attached to the Yellow Milk Crate on the rear rack as seem in the photo.

I probably ride upwards on 35% of the time at night. Doesn't bother me, really. Ride slower, make extra effort to make yourself visible.

Don't know the % but I love riding at night! Especially when it's warm. Hate it in the winter. There are far fewer cars on the road but you need to watch out for critters and unseen potholes and such. Other than that, I love it.

k-night riders?
Night, day, I ride whenever the mood suits me.
Now, that doesn't mean I would take on some twisties in the Santa Cruz mountains at night. I do change my route preferences based on the day/night thing.
But then again, California has tons of light pollution, so you usually can see the road pretty well even if you didn't have headlamps.

Dawn and dusk are when most critters are most active, so those are the times when I am more vigilant for kitties, racoons, deer and assorted varmints. No moose, thank goodness. Razz emoticon

I do ride on dark mornings in the winter but that's through town so no deer downtown yet.

love the night!
I ride at nite all the time. In new orleans, its cooler, and there is less traffic on the highways. That's when I can try my top speed runs. Just over 87 mph, then I hit some traffic and had to slow down. Next time, I will wait till later.

With my scooter being my only vehicle. (I have 3 cages and 4 drivers in my family) I ride my scoot 24/7. I truly enjoy it even when it is over 110 degrees in the summer. The only time I was really concerned when driving at night is when I became stuck in the left hand lane with a bunch of teenage hooligans driving cages showing off to each other within the City limits of Tucson.

I have only ridden once at night and it was only because I went out for a ride inthe evening and went farther than I had intended and thus didn't get back until it was dark...I only have rural roads where I live and I was petrified of a deer running in front of me...then, one actually did and totally scared me to death- after that, I couldn't wait to get home!

That would be scary. I bought a windscreen from a guy on ebay who had bought it and before he could install it, a deer totaled his BV500! Luckily, around here the only deer are in the forest preserve.

I'm sure this was stupid but...
Believe it or not, the first day I had my new vespa, my second ride was at night to run out and get a pack of Guinness. It was before I signed on here and before I knew anything about safety equipment and practices. Just threw on a black sweatshirt (!) and took off around the block to the store. At least I was wearing Jeans and my helmet and gloves (black too).

Sometimes we survive despite our best efforts...

There's a small secondary bulb in your headlight, might be intended as a daytime running light for europe, so it's very possible you've lost your low beam.

I don't ride at night. To many bugs coming down the mountains thru the cane and pineapple fields. Plus our roads suck and even with high beams you can;t see the potholes. Were not well lighted out here also. I did roll in after dark a few weeks ago and loved the pinkish hue my speedo had. Never seen it and have had the scooter for a couple of years

I rode to Vegas in the day and back at night. I liked riding at night, the scoot seemed to run better and I felt more visable at night.

Manny

PS I drive with the high beam on 100% of the time, day or night, better to piss someone off and have them see ya, than to not have them see ya and end up dead.

I'd guess 40% or more night riding. Here's me on the '78 P we put together after I crashed the Fireball.

I commute on my scoot. I'm on the road at 5:30am (We don't observe daylight savings time here in AZ) so I ride to work in the dark in the fall and winter.
The scooter club I'm in has rides at least one Friday night a month and I enjoy riding in the dark, from downtown Phoenix to home.

On my old Vino 125, I had two LED driving lights (From PEP Boys) mounted on my windscreen and aimed with my low beam and spread out.
I "Felt" seen more and my forward lighting was great!
I would like to add a pair to my gts, but without taking away from the classy lines of the scoot.

I don't mind night riding. North Dakota summer nights, riding would be after 10 pm and I usually I don't find much need to be out then, so it is usually spring or fall that I would find myself riding more at night.

We have deer very near my house, so I don't like riding by my house at night. Other night riding is great. Especially on the highway, when there's no one else there. I am assuming it's before 2am when all of drunks are still pounding away. I do hate the glare from my visor if it's not perfectly clean though. I don't tend to do it much, but I don't commute on my scoot but maybe once a week anyway. When I do, it's usually dark by the time I get home. I have reflective stripes on my leg shield and both cowls, reflective stars on my helmet, and a big reflective stripe on my Corazzo jackets.
