Today, at 5.02pm, Shepards Bush (Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham), I was was issued a Penalty Charge Notice under the contravention of

"Parked with one or more wheels on or over a footpath or any part of an urban road other than a carriageway (footway parking)"

External inline image provided by member with no explanatory text

I was talking to the warden and told him that there were other bikes across the road within the lines of the offense and complained why they didn't get a PCN.

All he told me was that "once the parking ticket has been issued all you can do is to contest this to the borough in writing.

Am I in the wrong? Was I rightfully done? Is there something I can do about this???

Thanks

Looks like you were 100% in the wrong there, sorry. However, the best place to get advice is on the pepipoo forums:

Apparently you missed the recent thread where another reckless scofflaw protested his parking ticket and received a verbal beating. Razz emoticon You broke the law, you're guilty, shut up and pay up.

Seriously, that sucks. There are a million stupid tickets for stupid offenses written every day. Looks like you were the unlucky one in this case. Tomorrow it will be someone else. Unfortunately, it probably won't help if your defense is "everyone else did it," although, I think that is a fine argument and grounds for having the case dismissed. Maybe it will help if you think of your fine as a donation towards keeping your lovely city lovely.

Parking on the pavement (or 'sidewalk' if you must) is perfectly legal in many places, even many places in the UK.

Nowhere in London though, the OP was on a hiding to nothing.

Not legal in Paris France either- but all parties consider one ticket a year to be perfect balance of economy.

nice one guys LOL.. made me feel a lot better hahaha!

Deep down inside I knew I was in the wrong but I don't know if anyone noticed that I wouldve avoided the ticket if I parked right on that f*in cager bay! literally 30 centimetres and I would've been in the clear.. but nooooo, it was one of those days where I thought I was being cool! got me no where but £60 poorer

Lesson learned...

The down side of scootering america is that we have way, way too many peckerheaad scooterist who think its ok to park in the yellow lined area of the handicapped zone. At least here in Chicago thats the case, it may be different else where.

America is no different, if you are parking the wrong place, on a walkway/sidewalk (pavement?) , facing the wrong direction, on the wrong side of the street and we get to pay our local governing bodies all kinds of fun money.

Some place are more lenient than other and some are not. We takes our chances and pays our money. Clown emoticon

FREEEEEEEEEEE!
Okay, information for London riders and vlconception who made a mistake here.

Hammersmith and Fulham allows PTWs to park anywhere, for free, provided it is on the street.

There is no need to park on the pavement in the borough.

You will not get a ticket if you park as a car does, there is no need to look for a bay.

This link will give you a chart about how and where you can park in each seperate borough of London. doug has this chart stuck on his scooter, so the curious or the forgetful might want to pm him and ask him where he got it.

I don't know how it is in other states, but in NH, handicap zones MUST have a sign that indicates they are for handicap parking. Blue lines or wheelchairs painted on the ground are not enforceable. Our law was changed a couple of years ago, probably due to that fact that snow cover and street dirt can cover anything painted on the ground.

The sign can be mounted on the building or on a post, but it must be visible all the time.

Perhaps in LA they are blue but here they usually just use whatever paint they used on the rest of the parking lot.

I think parking in a disabled bay because of a technicality would be pretty mean anyway...

In Sydney City, all motorcycles park free everywhere (not metered). But, we still have to obey the time limits, unless we get a spot in the all-day bike parking (mostly full by 830am). It is still rare to get a ticket, although I have personally discovered that some of them carry stickytape... Bastards!

Must admit I'm a bit clueless on parking a scooter in London. If there's a bay then it's easy - I park there. Unless I'm in Westminster in which case I have to phone somewhere and pay a £1 - so I don't park there out of principal. In some areas you can park in residents only areas - in other areas this is a fine. Roads marked with single and double lines - I just avoid. I tend not to park in metered zones unless there's a big enough gap for me to squeeze in - I have no idea about the legality of this either. Some supermarkets/large shops don't mind you using their motorcycle bays while others want to see a receipt from the shop. I don't park on the pavement but I often park on private unused land alongside the pavement though private clampers seem to be hitting us now as an easy mark. Some "pay for" car parks allow you to park for free, others charge a lesser fee, some charge the full fee.

I appreciate that ignorance of the law is no excuse but honestly ...

Yours confused of London
