Hi, Help. It was a hit and run and of course I end up paying. Maybe you can help. When I start the Vespa I hear clicking a little black box above the engine. I checked the battery and it seems fine. Could it be a fuse? The booklet is very poor in explaining the fuses. Could a fuse cause this bike not to start. Can anyone help? Again the engine doesn't turnover but a clicking sound is heard. Not a battery issue.

The clicking is the starter relay. Is it just one click or does it chatter away? If the latter then the battery is shot. If just the one click, then there must be a damaged cable or connection either from the battery or to the starter motor.

maybe all you need is to charge your battery it may not be shot only run down from not using it enough, or as Jimc says a connection somewhere.
the first thing I would do is put it on slow charge overnight. IF you don't have a charger borrow your neighbours, the battery is under the floor pad. Trikkle chargers are not expensive at your local auto parts store and if you let your scoot sit a lot it will come in handy, you can extend the life of your battery by quite a bit if you are willing to charge it once in while when it is on it;s way out. |

Thinking a bit better after a 'glass' - the relay may have dirty contacts. Test this with a meter, or by shorting out the big red wires with an old pair of long-nosed pliers. If the starter turns over, the relay needs changing or taking apart and cleaning (not all relays can be opened).

Jim,
Ever hear of Finlaggan? I just picked up a case at Trader Joe's, in California. the best $17.99 Islay I've ever had. Better than most $50 Islays also. Looked it up on the web and it was said that it is bottled occasionally and they won't let on what distillery it is from. Not many on the island anyway. You might want to see if it is available in your area. Might be the Islay bargain of a lifetime. |

Yes - Finlaggan is variable, but always good. It's a 'name' put to whatever local single malt the bottler can get his hands on. Whatever is in each bottle, it's always one of my favourites, so wotmeworry...
It's also often rather expensive here, and you can't know what you are really buying. I normally buy whatever is on special offer at my local supermarket. This is usually below the 'best' price anywhere else in the EU. |

Well, think of me next time you're having a 'wee' dram of your favorite bargain Islay. In my neck of the woods McClelland's is the only drinkable Islay at an everyday price.
